Eddie Guerrero ranks as its defining mainstream standard-bearer in WWE’s account, while Rob Van Dam is known for his distinctively named Five-Star Frog Splash. This is a focused ranking of those three figures, not a comprehensive list of every wrestler who has used the move.
How this ranking works
The ranking weighs documented historical attribution, signature identity and consequential use. WWE’s published accounts support those distinctions for Barr, Guerrero and Van Dam. They do not establish an objective measure of who performed the move best, used it most often, or had the greatest influence across wrestling promotions. Any judgment about the best-looking version is therefore editorial, not a measured result.
1. Art Barr: the originator in WWE’s account
WWE credits Art Barr with creating the Frog Splash and says Eddie Guerrero adopted it after Barr’s death. That makes Barr the clearest first choice when the ranking is about historical origin. This is WWE’s attribution; it should not be mistaken for a universally settled account across every wrestling history. WWE’s account of the move’s origins.
2. Eddie Guerrero: the defining mainstream standard-bearer
Guerrero’s place rests on both the adoption story and WWE’s identification of the Frog Splash as one of his signature moves. Calling him the defining mainstream standard-bearer is an editorial characterization grounded in those facts, not a claim that no other wrestler helped popularize the move.

A signature move with a championship payoff
At No Way Out on February 15, 2004, Guerrero hit the Frog Splash and pinned Brock Lesnar to win the WWE Championship, according to WWE’s event history. That documented title victory gives his use a particularly consequential place in the move’s WWE story. WWE’s Eddie Guerrero profile identifies the Frog Splash among his signature moves; WWE’s event-history feature recounts the title win.
3. Rob Van Dam: the signature variation
WWE lists Rob Van Dam’s “Five-Star Frog Splash” as a signature move. The distinct name gives his version a clear identity and earns him a place among the prominent users covered here. The available official evidence establishes that signature association, but does not compare his execution with Barr’s or Guerrero’s. WWE’s Rob Van Dam profile.

| Question | Best-supported answer | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Who created the move? | Art Barr, in WWE’s account | WWE attributes its creation to Barr and describes Guerrero as a later adopter. |
| Who made it familiar to a broad WWE audience? | Eddie Guerrero | WWE identifies it as a signature move and documents his championship-winning use against Brock Lesnar. |
| Who is associated with a named variation? | Rob Van Dam | WWE calls his signature move the Five-Star Frog Splash. |
These are different kinds of distinction, not proof that one wrestler’s version was technically superior. The official evidence cited here does not settle execution quality, frequency, safety, fan preference or influence across all promotions. It also does not support an exhaustive cross-promotion ranking.
