In Amanda and Sarria’s PerthNow review, the slow rope work and the visible rapport between artist Cinnamon and model Gigi made the hour feel absorbing rather than dull. The title’s “five star” phrase is an editorial judgment, not a shared five-star rating: Amanda gave the show five stars and Sarria four.
What the 2024 performance was
Entangled in Wonderland: A Shibari Immersion was an Alice in Wonderland-inspired Shibari performance presented at Fringe World Perth in 2024. PerthNow reviewers Amanda and Sarria identify Cinnamon as the Shibari artist and Gigi as the rope model. Their account describes Gigi being tied, hoisted and inverted over the course of an hour; that duration is the reviewers’ description, not an independently verified running time. Read the PerthNow review.
Why the slow pace worked for the reviewers
Rope work as visual composition
“It’s slow, precise and methodical,” Amanda and Sarria wrote. Rather than treating the pace as a lack of momentum, they saw it as an invitation to follow the work as it developed: the placement of the rope, the changing shapes and the overall composition. They compared watching it to “watching someone mould something out of clay.”
Rapport and tone
The reviewers also noticed Cinnamon checking in with Gigi and described the performers’ enjoyment as contagious. In their telling, the show moves through a darker spectacle before ending on a lighter, playful note, with its Wonderland reference helping shape that shift in tone.

Handle gently and avoid pulling hard on the cords.
A friend who saw a video of the slow spin asked, “Wasn’t that boring?” Amanda and Sarria’s response was rooted in seeing the performance in person: its deliberate pace gave them time to appreciate the craft. That is their reaction, rather than a guarantee that every viewer will respond the same way.
What to know about the viewing experience
The reviewers’ main practical reservation was the seating arrangement. They recommended arriving early to look for a front-row or aisle seat. That advice reflects their experience at the performance they attended; it does not establish the seating setup for any other venue or engagement.
