Russ in Friends is played by David Schwimmer. “Snaro” is the name shown in the episode’s credit, not a different actor. A fan-maintained Friends FAQ reports that the alias was in some way a tribute to a friend of Schwimmer’s, but says its exact significance is unknown.
Who played Russ in Friends?
David Schwimmer played Russ, Ross Geller’s look-alike, in the season-two episode “The One with Russ.” IMDb lists the episode as airing on January 4, 1996, and identifies Schwimmer as Russ while noting the “Snaro” credit: IMDb’s episode entry.
Why does the credit say “Snaro”?
The explanation available from the Friends FAQ is limited: it says the name was in some way a tribute to a friend of Schwimmer’s. The FAQ also says the exact significance is unknown and does not identify the friend. It is a fan-maintained FAQ, not a statement attributed to Schwimmer or a named creator of the show.
So “Snaro” is best understood as an unusual credit alias with a reported tribute connection—not as evidence that someone else played Russ. The sources do not establish why that particular name was chosen or whom it honored.
