FreshCut’s reported two-million-visitor milestone was an early audience figure, not two million monthly active users. The gaming-focused short-video platform later announced it was closing, saying it had not built a sustainable business in time. Its rise and shutdown make the story a case study in the difference between attracting an audience and building a durable company.
What did “2 million visitors” mean?
GamesBeat reported in 2023 that FreshCut had reached two million visitors within five months. That headline measure is distinct from the same article’s figure of 910,000 monthly active users by the end of Q2; visitors and monthly active users are not interchangeable. GamesBeat also reported 130,000 content creators at the time. These are figures from the 2023 coverage, not current audience counts. GamesBeat’s report gives the contemporaneous figures.
When it later announced the closure, FreshCut said the platform had accumulated more than 2.5 million users and 300,000 creators. Those are the company’s own cumulative figures in its closure post, rather than independently audited totals. FreshCut’s closure announcement does not display the year alongside its stated Friday, June 14 date.
What was FreshCut?
FreshCut was a gaming-focused short-form video and community platform. It brought clips together with game-specific communities, recommendations, creator interaction, and digital tipping. GamesBeat described communities for Roblox, Fortnite, and Super Smash Bros; it reported that Roblox accounted for more than half of FreshCut’s users and viewership at the time. Those details describe the 2023-era service, not a platform available today.

The company’s 2022 announcement presented FreshCut as a Web3 community-content ecosystem, with creators and fans participating in rewards and having a voice in platform direction. Its token-based earning mechanics were described as a model the company planned, not proof that the proposed system operated as intended or generated lasting value. FreshCut’s 2022 announcement used the phrase “$15 million collectively raised” for FreshCut and ecosystem partners. GamesBeat later cited an $11.6 million funding total for FreshCut; the two figures have different scopes and should not be treated as conflicting estimates of the same total.
How did FreshCut creators make money?
GamesBeat reported two distinct mechanisms: tips using Diamonds and a Community Fund that supported creators. CEO and cofounder James Kuk told the outlet that the tip split was 90% to creators and 10% to FreshCut, with the company reinvesting most of its share into the Community Fund. GamesBeat also reported more than $1 million invested in creators through that fund, and eight million Diamond tips, which it equated to $80,000.

Advertising revenue sharing was a future intention, not an existing creator payment system in Kuk’s account. He said FreshCut intended to activate advertising over time and share meaningful revenue with partnered creators. The company’s earlier token-reward framing and its later descriptions of Diamond tips and merch-store rewards are separate historical descriptions; they do not establish an operating ad-share program.
Why did FreshCut close?
FreshCut’s closure announcement said it had been unable to build a sustainable business in time, “especially in this financial climate.” That is the company’s stated explanation; the available account does not establish a fuller cause or detail the platform’s subsequent legal status or any transfer of its assets. The announcement marked the end of the service, despite the larger cumulative audience figures it reported.

What the milestone says—and does not say
FreshCut paired a focused gaming audience with short clips, community spaces, creator tools, and tipping. Its reported visitors, active users, creator counts, and tips describe different dimensions of traction; none alone demonstrates that a platform had sustainable economics. The closure provides the clearest outcome: an early audience milestone did not, by itself, ensure the company could build a viable business in time.
