The years-later story belongs to the characters; the actors’ careers are a separate story, and the available official cast coverage offers only selected career landmarks rather than a complete update on everyone.
The original ‘Freaky Friday’: the cast and story
Disney lists the original Freaky Friday as a PG film released August 6, 2003, directed by Mark Waters and written by Mary Rodgers, Heather Hach, and Leslie Dixon. Its central relationship is between Dr. Tess Coleman and her teenage daughter, Anna: unable to understand each other, they swap bodies and must find a way back before Tess’s Saturday wedding. Disney’s original-film page credits Jamie Lee Curtis, Lindsay Lohan, Mark Harmon, Harold Gould, Chad Michael Murray, Stephen Tobolowsky, Christina Vidal Mitchell, Ryan Malgarini, Haley Hudson, Rosalind Chao, Lucille Soong, Willie Garson, Dina Waters, Julie Gonzalo, and Christina Marie Walter.

Who returned for ‘Freakier Friday’?
The sequel opened August 8, 2025, with Nisha Ganatra directing. Disney lists it as PG with a runtime of 1 hour 51 minutes. Curtis and Lohan reprise Tess and Anna; Mark Harmon, Chad Michael Murray, Christina Vidal Mitchell, Haley Hudson, Lucille Soong, Stephen Tobolowsky, and Rosalind Chao are also among the returning original cast. The sequel’s cast list adds Julia Butters, Sophia Hammons, Manny Jacinto, and Maitreyi Ramakrishnan. Disney’s sequel page provides the release and cast details.
How the Coleman family changes in the sequel
The “22 years later” framing describes the interval between the two films, not a claim about the actors’ lives. In Freakier Friday, Tess is a successful psychologist preparing for a book tour, while Anna manages pop star Ella and is a single mother to 15-year-old Harper. Anna’s family now includes a new generation and a prospective blended family, giving the sequel a wider set of relationships for its body-swap comedy.

Jamie Lee Curtis described the premise as a way to see other people’s perspectives: “The whole concept of a body-swap comedy is, ‘Walk a mile in my shoes and then see the world through my eyes,’” she said. “And in our case, it’s four different perspective shifts.” Director Nisha Ganatra called working with Curtis and Lohan “a dream to direct those two.” Both comments appear in The Walt Disney Company’s sequel feature.
Selected career landmarks for the returning stars
The official coverage highlights some recognizable roles, not full or exhaustive biographies. D23 points to Jamie Lee Curtis’s work in The Bear and Scream Queens; Chad Michael Murray’s credits include One Tree Hill, Dawson’s Creek, and Agent Carter; and Mark Harmon is associated with his long-running role as Leroy Jethro Gibbs in NCIS. Pink Slip’s return
The sequel also brings back Pink Slip, Anna’s band from the original. Producer Kristin Burr said, “There were certain things from the first film that we knew had to come back for the sequel. Pink Slip was at the top of that list.” In a Disney+ producer interview revised June 1, 2026, Burr discusses the band’s return, and Disney+ says Freakier Friday is streaming on the service. Availability of the 2003 original is not established for every territory, so check the local catalog if you want to watch it there.
