The announcement said production was set to begin in early 2026, but it did not give a release date. The renewal answers the immediate question of whether the Apple TV series will return; it does not confirm that the show will follow the reported eight-season plan associated with former showrunner David S. Goyer.
What Apple confirmed about Foundation season 4
Apple’s September 11, 2025 announcement confirmed the renewal and named Ian Goldberg and David Kob as co-showrunners and executive producers. David S. Goyer is also credited as an executive producer, so the announcement indicates a change in day-to-day leadership, not that he has left the series entirely. Apple’s season-four announcement includes statements from the incoming co-showrunners and Apple TV head of programming Matt Cherniss.

Apple said production was set to begin in early 2026. That is a production start plan, not a premiere window: the announcement does not say when new episodes will be available.
When will Foundation season 4 come out?
No season-four premiere date or release window was established in the official announcement. A 2027 premiere has been suggested by TechRadar, but that is speculation, not a date confirmed by Apple. The early-2026 production target alone is not enough to establish a release year.

Will the series still run for eight seasons?
That remains uncertain. TechRadar reported that Goyer had pitched an eight-season plan and quoted a response he posted in an August 2025 Q&A on his website: “I don’t believe the new team is adhering to any of those ideas,” he wrote. “They are charting their own path and making it their own, as they should.”
That comment suggests the incoming team may not be following Goyer’s original ideas, but it does not establish that the series has been shortened, cancelled, or denied a chance to continue. Apple’s season-four announcement confirms only season four; it does not announce a fifth season or commit to eight seasons.

What is still unknown about the new season
The reviewed announcement does not provide a season-four episode count, a confirmed cast list, or a plot outline. Apple describes Foundation as based on Isaac Asimov’s stories, but that does not mean the series follows the books scene by scene. Apple’s earlier season-three renewal announcement likewise described the show as an adaptation of Asimov’s stories; season-three details should not be treated as confirmation of season-four story or casting. Apple’s season-three renewal announcement is available separately.
