The headline’s “this month” referred to June 2025, when Epic announced upcoming Squid Game creator assets—not October 2026. The two stories concern licensed tools for building Fortnite islands, not new standalone games: Squid Game islands became publishable in August 2025, while Star Wars creation tools were announced for May 2026.
What the original headline meant
Insider Gaming published the headline on June 3, 2025. At that point, “Squid Game lands this month” referred to Epic’s plan to make Squid Game-themed creator assets available from June 27, 2025, with publishing planned for later in the year. The Star Wars development was separate: licensed tools and assets for Fortnite’s creator ecosystem. Epic announced that program on April 1, 2026. Both initiatives let creators build themed Fortnite islands using UEFN or Creative, but their availability dates and publishing terms differ.

The payout percentages are separate creator-program terms, not prices paid by players. Neither announcement makes these islands a consumer purchase recommendation, and the two licenses do not have identical conditions.

What creators can make with the Star Wars tools
Epic’s Star Wars toolkit was designed for building original islands with curated franchise assets and mechanics. Epic’s April 2026 announcement also set clear boundaries: “All Star Wars islands must comply with the Star Wars Brand Rules and do not support in-island transactions.” The statement is from Epic Games, not an individually named speaker. Epic’s June 25, 2026 v41.10 notes later said the Star Wars toolkit included over 30 droids with control rigs and a rideable Mountain Tauntaun variant. The same release described the Verse Quest API as experimental and not yet usable in publishable islands; that caveat applies to the general UEFN feature, not the licensed Star Wars toolkit. Epic’s Squid Game documentation lists maximum age-rating categories by region. These are the categories shown in that documentation; ratings and publishing rules can change, so creators should use the current publishing workflow and brand rules for decisions.

What readers should take away
The headline joined two updates from different years. Squid Game creator assets were announced in June 2025 and publishing began in August 2025; Star Wars tools and islands came later, in 2026. Both programs expanded what creators could build inside Fortnite, while leaving creators responsible for program eligibility, brand requirements, payout terms, and applicable age-rating rules.
