Fortnite OG Chapter 1 Season 3 launched on March 25, 2025, bringing back Lucky Landing and the limited-time OG 50v50 mode. On the same day, Epic made The Walking Dead Universe assets available to creators in Fortnite Creative and UEFN. The two launches served different audiences: OG Season 3 was Battle Royale content for players, while The Walking Dead package was a toolkit for building islands.
What Fortnite OG Season 3 brought back
Epic’s March 25, 2025 announcement framed OG as a return to Chapter 1 Season 3. Its headline additions included Lucky Landing, the season’s meteor, and OG 50v50. Epic’s launch announcement said the meteor would draw closer over the course of the season; it was a developing seasonal feature, not a one-time launch event.
OG 50v50 was a limited-time mode
The mode placed two teams of 50 against one another. Epic scheduled it to run through April 14, 2025, at 9 AM ET. That date is its announced historical end time, not evidence that the mode remains available.
Classic items returned over the season
Epic listed the Guided Missile, Hand Cannon, Hunting Rifle, Remote Explosive, Heavy Shotgun, Port-A-Fort, Light Machine Gun, and Clingers among the Chapter 1 Season 3 items returning. The announcement said some were available immediately and others would arrive throughout the season, so the list should not be read as a launch-day loot-pool snapshot.

The OG Pass had 45 reward tiers
At launch, Epic announced a 45-tier OG Pass with premium outfits Power Punk, Mecha R3X, and Sir Raven, plus accessories and alternate styles. The premium pass was priced at 1,000 V-Bucks, and Fortnite Crew offered access at that time. Epic said XP earned in any Fortnite experience advanced the rewards. These were the announced terms for the 2025 season, not confirmation of present-day availability.
What The Walking Dead content added for creators
The Walking Dead Universe release was not a Walking Dead-themed OG Battle Royale season. It gave Fortnite Creative and UEFN island makers licensed materials for their own experiences. Epic’s March 25 announcement and 34.20 ecosystem release notes describe tools and assets including:
- Prison Starter and Walker NPC templates, along with Walker NPCs.
- Themed weapons, prefabs, and galleries for building island environments.
- Heavy Linework, a comic-book-style post-processing effect.
Creators could begin making islands with these assets on March 25, 2025, at around 9 AM ET. The release also had a separate character schedule: Negan was announced as a playable Shop character for April 4, 2025, and as an NPC starting with v34.30 on April 8. Those dates describe the original rollout.

Creation access and island publishing had different dates
Having access to the assets did not mean creators could immediately publish islands using them. Epic initially scheduled the publishing lift for May 16, 2025, at 9 AM ET. On May 15, it updated the announcement: publication would instead open at 12 PM ET on May 16 because a lighting issue was affecting published islands. The release notes said publishing would begin through the Creator Portal.

Creators also had to opt into additional terms, follow The Walking Dead brand and creator rules, and share 12% of engagement payout for Walking Dead Universe islands with Skybound Entertainment. That percentage was a licensing term for eligible creator islands, not an affiliate commission.

In short, the launches shared a date but not a game mode or purpose: one refreshed Fortnite’s OG player experience, and the other supplied materials for creator-made islands.
