Yes—Fortnite is officially back on Apple’s App Store in most regions. Epic Games announced the return on May 19, 2026, and the U.S. App Store listing is live. Australia is the explicit exception named by Epic, where the App Store return has not occurred. Availability can also depend on your Apple Account region, device, operating-system version, age settings, and temporary storefront problems.
Where Fortnite is available on Apple devices
Epic says Fortnite returned to the App Store worldwide on May 19, 2026, but its announcement specifically excludes Australia. Check the storefront for the Apple Account region you actually use; being physically in a country does not necessarily change that account’s App Store catalog.
The U.S. listing is available at Apple’s official Fortnite App Store page. Epic also documents other legitimate ways to play when the native listing is unavailable:

Why Fortnite disappeared from the App Store
In 2020, Epic added a direct-payment option to Fortnite so players could pay Epic rather than use Apple’s in-app-payment system. Apple removed the game, and Epic sued, challenging Apple’s App Store rules and commission structure.
The legal result was not a simple, complete Epic victory. The dispute continued through court enforcement fights over alternative-payment links and Apple’s commissions. The Associated Press reports that Apple historically collected about 15% to 30% on qualifying in-app transactions; it also describes a later system imposing a 27% commission on some payments made through outside links. What triggered the 2026 return?
Epic’s May 19 announcement attributes the return to legal pressure over Apple’s payment practices. Epic said it would not return under terms it considered unlawful and presented the relaunch as part of its continuing challenge to Apple’s fees, payment controls, and alternative app-store policies. The announcement does not establish a final settlement, and Epic says the broader fight continues.
How to install Fortnite from the App Store
- Open the App Store on your iPhone or iPad.
- Search for Fortnite.
- Check that the publisher is Epic Games and that you are viewing the official listing.
- Tap Get or the download button, then authenticate with Face ID, Touch ID, or your Apple Account password if requested.
- Open Fortnite and sign in to your existing Epic Games account, or create one.
- Allow the app to download any additional game data.
Use the same Epic account you use on other platforms if you want Epic’s supported cross-platform progression and your existing account data. Creating a second account can make progress or cosmetics appear to be missing.

These are installation requirements, not a promise of identical performance. Frame rate, visual quality, heat, battery use, download size, and update times vary by model and software. A device that can install the game is not necessarily a device that delivers console-level performance.
If Fortnite does not appear in your App Store
- Check your Apple Account country or region. Store catalogs are region-specific.
- Start from Epic’s official support page rather than a third-party download site.
- Confirm your model against the compatibility list and install the newest iOS or iPadOS version your device supports.
- Review Screen Time, parental controls, and age restrictions. These can hide or block an otherwise available app.
- Search for the publisher, Epic Games. Do not rely on look-alike listings.
- In Australia, do not assume repeated searches will fix the problem. Epic’s announcement still identifies the Australian App Store as excluded.
- Use an official alternative if your region is unsupported. Epic lists the Epic Games Store Mobile, AltStore PAL, and cloud services where each is supported.
Do not install random Fortnite IPA files, configuration profiles, “mobile installers,” or piracy packages. They are not official distribution routes and can compromise your account or device.

Epic Games Store Mobile
Epic says its mobile store is available on iPhone and iPad in the European Union and on iPhone in Japan. The listed requirements are iOS 17.6 or later on iPhone and iPadOS 18 or later on iPad. Alternative-marketplace installation involves additional Apple prompts and regional conditions, so the App Store and Epic Games Store routes are not interchangeable.

Epic identifies AltStore PAL as another Fortnite installation route in the European Union and Japan. It is a third-party marketplace route permitted under applicable regional rules, not the Apple App Store listing.
Cloud gaming
Epic lists Xbox Cloud Gaming, NVIDIA GeForce NOW, and Amazon Luna. Cloud play avoids a large local installation and can work when the native app is unavailable, but it depends on a supported country, server availability, and a stable connection. Latency, queues, image quality, and data use can vary, making cloud streaming less suitable for players who need the lowest possible input delay.

Is the mobile game the same as Fortnite elsewhere?
Epic describes its mobile offerings as full Fortnite versions with cross-platform play and account progression. The experience still differs by hardware and control method: touch controls replace keyboard and mouse or a console controller, and performance depends on the phone or tablet. A compatible Bluetooth or supported game controller may feel more natural, but controller compatibility and pricing should be checked with the relevant manufacturer.
Native play stores the installation on the device and can continue through ordinary app updates. Cloud streaming runs the game remotely, so it is not equivalent to an offline or locally installed copy.

For players, the practical change is significant: an official native Fortnite download is available again on supported Apple devices across most regions. For the businesses, the return does not erase the underlying dispute. Apple still controls App Store distribution and payment mechanisms in the ordinary iOS channel, while Epic continues to challenge Apple’s fees and policies concerning alternative stores and payments.
That is why “back on the App Store” should not be read as “the legal conflict is over.” It describes the game’s current distribution status, not a confirmed permanent settlement.
