Michael Scheuer, a former Walt Disney World employee, pleaded guilty to computer-intrusion offenses after altering restaurant-menu information to make some foods appear safe for people with certain allergies when they were not, federal prosecutors said. The Associated Press reported that Disney caught the changes before the menus were sent to restaurants; the reviewed reports do not establish that a diner ate an affected item.
What did Scheuer change on the menus?
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Florida said Scheuer’s plea agreement described intrusions into his former employer’s computer systems after his termination. Among the changes, he altered restaurant-menu allergen information so that some foods appeared safe for customers with certain allergies when they were not. The office announced his guilty plea on January 23, 2025.
The same federal announcement described other conduct: changes to wine-region information that replaced the regions with locations of recent mass shootings, and denial-of-service attacks intended to lock employees out of their accounts. The allergy-menu alteration was one part of a broader set of unauthorized intrusions.
Did anyone eat food with the false allergy information?
The reviewed sources do not establish that anyone ate food affected by the altered information or suffered an injury. The Associated Press, reporting in October 2024 on the criminal complaint, said Disney detected the changes before the menus were shipped to restaurants. That reporting describes potential exposure being averted, not a documented diner injury.

Why the distinction between risk and injury matters
False allergy information on a restaurant menu can create a serious safety risk, but the available reporting distinguishes that risk from a confirmed injury. The federal releases describe the admitted menu alteration; AP’s earlier account says the changes were caught before the affected menus reached restaurants. Neither supports saying that a diner was harmed.
