Federal Police Agent Aaron Falk returns to investigate, sorting through the hikers’ conflicting accounts while confronting memories tied to the same landscape. Robert Connolly wrote and directed the film, with Eric Bana back as Falk.
What is Force of Nature: The Dry 2 about?
Five women head into remote bushland for a company retreat. Several days later, only four return, and Falk is drawn into the search for the missing hiker. The premise comes from Screen Australia’s production synopsis, which leaves the central question—“But did that lead to murder?”—open rather than resolving it.

IFC Center’s US synopsis identifies the missing woman as Alice, a corporate whistle-blower, and says Falk travels into the Giralang Ranges with Carmen Cooper as a storm threatens the search. Those details belong to IFC’s version of the setup; the broader production synopsis describes the disappearance without naming Alice.
How does the bushland shape the mystery?
The remote setting is more than a backdrop: it narrows the search and places the investigation amid the women’s clashing accounts. The production synopsis also connects the landscape to fragmented memories from Falk’s childhood. That link gives the case a personal dimension without requiring the film to reveal what happened to the missing hiker.

The result is a mystery built around uncertainty: what the group remembers, what each person chooses to say, and how Falk’s own history informs his reading of the place. Screen Australia classifies the film as crime/law and order, drama, mystery, and thriller.
How does it connect to The Dry and Jane Harper’s novel?
This is the follow-up to The Dry, the 2021 Australian film, and brings back Eric Bana as Aaron Falk. Its source is Jane Harper’s novel Force of Nature, which also centers on Falk and a missing bushwalker. IFC Center describes the film as a sequel; Harper’s official site confirms the screen adaptation.

The novel is a natural companion for viewers who want to spend more time with the premise, but the available official descriptions do not establish a scene-by-scene match. Treat it as the book behind the film, not a guarantee that every detail is identical.
Who made the film, and who is in the cast?
Screen Australia credits Robert Connolly as both writer and director. Its cast listing includes:

How long is it?
Published runtime listings do not agree. Screen Australia records 120 minutes, while IFC Center lists 112 minutes and AMC+ lists 1 hour 53 minutes. For a US consumer listing, IFC’s and AMC+’s figures are close; check the specific cinema or service if the exact runtime matters.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Where can you watch it, and what ratings are listed?
IFC Center’s page records a US theatrical engagement from May 10–23, 2024, distributed by IFC Films; it is historical, not a current showtime listing. AMC+ has a catalog page for the film, and the official film site links to a “Where to Watch” page. Neither a catalog page nor that link confirms availability in every country today, so check the service in your region.

Age guidance also varies by listing: Rotten Tomatoes’ result lists an R rating for language, while Apple TV’s result reports 15+ with violence and language advisories. These are platform- and territory-specific labels, not interchangeable classifications.
What has critics’ reception looked like?
Rotten Tomatoes’ result showed a 66% Tomatometer from 53 critic reviews when retrieved in 2026; scores and review totals can change. IFC Center also reproduces The Guardian’s description, “Drips with pot boiler-ish twists and turns.” That phrase captures the film’s twist-led mystery, but the available material does not establish a definitive comparison with the first film.
