The release date also carries personal significance in Florence Welch’s account. In a November 12, 2025 interview with Le Monde, she said she chose October 31 because “the veil between the living and the dead is at its thinnest.”

The Associated Press describes its 12 songs as addressing ambition and the constraints placed on women artists, alongside sexism, male entitlement, mortality, mysticism and witchcraft. Its review also notes the record’s orchestral-pop arrangements.
Speaking to Le Monde, Welch said, “The album took a lot of influences from magic mysticism.” She also connected its ideas to birth and women’s knowledge: “If you look at birth, you find tales of witchcraft throughout the ages (…) These were just women who had extensive knowledge of birth,” she said, adding that the experience “took me down a path of magic and medicine.” These are Welch’s reflections on her inspirations, not independent claims about medical or historical practice.
