For several local promo clips, put them in one OBS VLC Video source as an ordered playlist, enable Loop Playlist, and leave Shuffle Playlist off for a fixed order. For one clip that should repeat, use a Media Source and turn on Loop. Then check end-of-playback visibility, scene layers, and the actual transitions before going live.
Choose the right OBS source for your videos
Several promos: VLC Video playlist
OBS’s Media Sources documentation describes VLC Video as the source for playlist playback. Add each clip to the playlist in the desired order, enable Loop Playlist, and keep Shuffle Playlist off if the promos must play in sequence. VLC must be installed for VLC Video to be available; OBS documentation specifies 64-bit VLC when using 64-bit OBS.
One promo: Media Source
For a single file that should repeat, add or select a Media Source and enable Loop. OBS documents Loop as off by default. A Media Source is for a single media file; use VLC Video when the intended behavior is to advance through multiple files.
Check why the picture disappears
- Confirm the source type and contents. Check whether the scene uses Media Source or VLC Video. If it is a playlist, verify that every promo is included and in the intended order.
- Check the end-of-file setting. For one repeating clip, enable Loop. Also inspect Show nothing when playback ends: OBS documents this option as on by default, and it hides the source when its file ends.
- Check visibility and restart behavior. VLC Video’s documented default is Stop when not visible, restart when visible. If a scene switch or visibility change occurs near the gap, check whether that behavior is stopping and restarting playback. An OBS forum discussion about fading between scenes with IP camera sources reported a black frame in a different setup when playback restarted as a source became active; disabling the setting helped that poster. That example makes the setting worth checking, but does not establish it as the cause of gaps in local promo playlists.
- Inspect the Sources order. OBS layers higher sources above lower ones. Make sure no opaque source above the video is covering it when the gap appears; see the OBS Sources Guide.
- Test transitions and the full cycle. Record locally or preview privately through several clip changes and one complete playlist loop. OBS’s overview guide recommends testing settings and stream operation before going live.
If the black gaps persist
Check the source files and playback conditions clip by clip, including whether the gap occurs at the end of one particular file or at every transition. The cited OBS documentation describes the available controls, but does not guarantee frame-accurate, gapless transitions for every combination of file format, codec, frame rate, and computer.

If uninterrupted transitions are essential, one reasonable workflow is to assemble the promos into a single continuous video and author any transitions into that timeline. This is an editorial workaround, not a guarantee established by OBS documentation; test the finished file in your own scene before relying on it live.
