Thiébaud was described in coverage as the alleged “other woman” in reports about Twain and Lange’s separation. The word “alleged” matters: a photo of two people together does not show that an affair took place.
What was reported about the separation
In a People report dated May 20, 2008, unnamed sources linked the separation to an alleged relationship between Lange and Thiébaud. That was a source-attributed account, not an established finding.

The same report quoted Lange denying the allegation: “It’s not true.” He described the separation as “literally just a growing apart, that’s all.” These quotations are reproduced from contemporaneous People reporting.
What Lange and Thiébaud said
Lange denied having an affair with Thiébaud, and Thiébaud also denied having an affair with him, according to contemporaneous reports. CBS News reported Thiébaud’s denial of a role in the breakup. The allegations and denials should not be treated as equivalent to proof of what caused the separation; the available reporting records conflicting accounts.

What the photograph can—and cannot—show
- It can show: the image that contemporary coverage described as depicting Thiébaud with Twain at a 2006 event.
- It cannot establish: whether an affair occurred, whether it caused the separation, or which account of the breakup was accurate.
The lasting distinction is between the existence of a published photo and the disputed explanation for the separation. The image was part of the 2008 coverage; it was not evidence resolving the allegation.
