The images appeared on January 28, 2026, but they do not establish the film’s plot, release date or full costume design.
What do the first Highlander reboot images show?
The images are a first look at Cavill in the role of Connor MacLeod. TheWrap describes the project as a reboot of the 1986 film and associates it with United Artists and Amazon MGM. TheWrap’s report and Variety’s coverage place the images in the context of Cavill’s post.
Variety reproduced Cavill’s caption: “Happy First Look for Highlander! This has been quite the journey for me, which I’ll tell you all about when the time is right, but it’s a special moment to be able to share this. I hope you enjoy.” It is Cavill’s description of the moment, not a statement about the film’s story.
Who is Henry Cavill playing?
Cavill is playing Connor MacLeod, the central character associated with the Highlander franchise. The new film is described as a reboot of the 1986 original, which starred Christopher Lambert, according to Variety. The images identify Cavill’s role; they do not confirm how closely the reboot will follow the original’s events or characterization.

Who is making the reboot, and where is it filming?
Chad Stahelski is directing. Screen Daily reported on February 11, 2026, that production was underway in London and Scotland, following delays after an undisclosed pre-production injury to Cavill. Screen Daily’s production report gives that status and those locations.
On April 16, 2026, Screen Global Production reported that filming would move on to the Scottish Highlands, Poland and Hong Kong. Those are reported locations, not a complete itinerary. Screen Global Production’s update describes the planned move.

How does the reboot relate to the 1986 film?
The project is a reboot of the 1986 Highlander, not a new edition of that film. The original starred Christopher Lambert; Cavill is the lead identified in coverage of the new project. The available reporting establishes that franchise relationship but does not support a detailed plot or scene-by-scene comparison.

The sources cited here do not confirm a release date. A report describing the project as a “2027 reboot” does not by itself establish that the film is scheduled to open in 2027, so no definite release year can be stated from that wording alone.
