In a PerthNow interview published on 12 October 2020, Fiona Horne—described by the paper as the former lead singer of 1990s electro-surf-rock group Def FX—spoke about her life as a modern witch and the ideas behind her book The Art of Witch. Rockpool Publishing presents the book as a guide to everyday witchcraft, rituals, ethics and personal transformation; those are the author’s and publisher’s descriptions, not independently demonstrated outcomes.
What Horne said about a “magical life”
Horne framed witchcraft as a practical spiritual approach that could be relevant beyond people who identify as witches. In the 2020 interview, she said: “The skills I have developed, living a magical life as a modern witch for decades now … are useful for everyone, and not limited to just witches.”
She also described ritual and divination as tools for reflection and decision-making: “Modern witchcraft has rituals and tools of divination like oracle and tarot … these are practical tools to attempt to live our best lives possible,” she said. These are Horne’s views, not evidence that rituals or divination produce particular results.
The interview appeared during the pandemic year. Horne spoke against a backdrop of job loss and uncertainty, describing modern witchcraft as a practical spiritual framework for that difficult period. Her comments belong to that 2020 context rather than a newly reported account of current events.

What The Art of Witch is
Fiona Horne’s The Art of Witch, published by Rockpool Publishing, is presented as a guide to everyday witchcraft, rituals, resilience and spiritual practice. Horne’s official book page describes it as a manifesto of principles and ethics that also draws on real-life anecdotes. The publisher says the book moves beyond familiar tools and props toward spiritual practice for modern life.
The descriptions establish how the author and publisher position the book; they do not verify that its practices cause transformation or other promised benefits. Readers looking for Horne’s perspective on what it means to be a witch can treat the book as an account of her approach, rather than as independent evidence about spiritual claims.

PerthNow connected Horne’s public identity as Def FX’s former lead singer with her modern-witch practice. At the time of that 2020 story, it reported that she had written 13 books on witchcraft. Her official author page now says she has written fifteen books. These are counts attributed to different sources at different dates, not a single independently verified total.
The story also previewed a spoken-word tour in Western Australia, with Vasse, Mandurah, Fremantle, Mount Hawthorn and Pinjarra among the listed locations. Those were planned stops for October 2020, not current event information. A separate Rockpool release, The Magick of You Oracle, is an oracle deck; it is not included with The Art of Witch.
