The Department of Education’s central Grade 9 Filipino Quarter 1 collection identifies Module 1 as Panitikang Asyano – Maikling Kuwento ng Singapore—Asian literature focused on a Singaporean short story. However, a separate DepEd teacher-copy listing uses the same grade, quarter, and module number for Tahanan ng Isang Sugarol. Check the copy assigned by your school before relying on a particular story title or looking up plot details.
What is Filipino 9 Quarter 1 Module 1?
In the DepEd Learning Portal’s central Grade 9 Filipino Quarter 1 collection, Module 1 is titled Panitikang Asyano – Maikling Kuwento ng Singapore. The collection is part of the K to 12 program, is listed for Grade 9 Filipino, and names educators and learners as its intended users. The portal records its publication date as August 2, 2022. DepEd Learning Portal
The listing places Module 1 in a six-part collection: the next entries cover a novel from Indonesia/the Philippines, Philippine poetry, an Indonesian essay, a play from the Philippines, and a final output. Its listed curriculum competency is: “Nagagamit ang mga angkop na salita sa paglalarawan ng kulturang asyano at bayani ng kanlurang asya”. This is the wording shown in the collection listing; it should not be treated as a complete lesson plan or as proof of additional objectives.
Why can the module number refer to a different story?
A separate DepEd Learning Portal record also labels a teacher’s copy “Filipino 9 (Quarter 1 Module 1),” but gives the story title as Tahanan ng Isang Sugarol. The record describes objectives about interpreting difficult words and analyzing events in relation to contemporary Asian society. It does not show a publication date or establish that this is the copy currently assigned by any particular school. DepEd Learning Portal

These catalog records mean the grade, quarter, and module number alone are not enough to identify a learner’s exact file. A teacher may use a different locally assigned copy, so confirm the title on the module cover or ask the teacher before using a plot summary, character guide, or answer key. Catalog information alone does not establish either story’s plot, author, translation, or lesson sequence.
What does the teacher-copy listing say learners should do?
The separate teacher-copy catalog entry names two objectives: interpreting difficult words through denotative or connotative meaning, and examining events in relation to contemporary Asian society. Its first objective appears on the catalog page with irregular spacing and transcription; check the downloaded module if you need the exact wording used in the lesson. DepEd Learning Portal

Where can you get the module, and can it be printed?
Look for the Grade 9 Filipino Quarter 1 collection in the DepEd Learning Portal and verify that the listing or file matches the title your teacher assigned. The central collection page lists its conditions of use as “Use, Copy, Print,” and names the Department of Education – Central Office as copyright owner. Those terms apply to that listed collection; they should not be assumed to cover unrelated materials. A dictionary may help with unfamiliar vocabulary, but the listing does not endorse a particular dictionary, and it does not make a purchase necessary.
