If an FFmpeg-powered YouTube stream freezes when one video ends and another begins, keep a single FFmpeg output session running and check which part stops: FFmpeg’s input/progress or YouTube’s ingest. For a fixed playlist of compatible files, use FFmpeg’s concat demuxer; if the files differ, normalize them with a concat filter and re-encode. Then use FFmpeg logs and YouTube’s stream-health status together to pinpoint the cause. Without your command, media details and logs, there is no reliable way to identify one exact root cause.
First locate where the stream stops
Watch FFmpeg’s progress and logs during the transition, then compare them with the stream-health indicator in YouTube Live Control Room. The distinction matters: a stalled frame count or demux/decode error points toward FFmpeg’s input sequence, while continuing FFmpeg progress and output means you should also investigate YouTube ingest health and format diagnostics.
- FFmpeg progress stops at the transition: inspect file sequencing, stream compatibility, duration metadata and timestamp errors.
- FFmpeg continues sending output: check Live Control Room’s health message, timestamp and ingest settings.
YouTube’s API defines a stream as active when it is receiving data and documents health states including good, ok, bad and noData. These indicators help separate an ingest problem from a local input stall; they do not, by themselves, identify the cause. See the YouTube Live Streams API.
For a fixed playlist, use FFmpeg’s concat demuxer
The concat demuxer reads listed files sequentially as one input. It is suitable when the files have matching streams, codecs and time bases, and can avoid re-encoding. Keep the YouTube output in one FFmpeg session rather than restarting a separate output for each video.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Create a concat list. Save a text file such as
playlist.ffconcatwith this content; the format line must be the exact first line for automatic recognition:ffconcat version 1.0 file 'first.mp4' file 'second.mp4' - Check paths and quoting. Use valid paths to each file. Paths containing spaces or special characters need correct quoting and escaping for the concat-list format.
- Check compatibility. Confirm that the files expose the same streams and use compatible codecs and time bases. Do not assume the demuxer can join files merely because they all play as MP4s.
- Check durations. The demuxer adjusts timestamps so each file follows the preceding file’s duration. Incorrect duration metadata can shift the next file’s timestamps and cause artifacts. If a file’s metadata is inaccurate, the concat list supports an explicit
durationdirective. - Use the list as one input. Point FFmpeg at the concat list and keep the output directed to YouTube for the full sequence. Preserve a steady output configuration, and inspect progress and logs at the transition.
FFmpeg’s documentation describes the list format, compatibility constraints and duration handling in the concat demuxer section.
When files differ, normalize them with a concat filter
If the inputs vary in resolution, frame rate, pixel format, audio layout, codec or whether an audio stream exists, packet-level concatenation may not be appropriate. Use a concat filter graph, explicitly normalize each input, and encode one consistent output. FFmpeg’s FAQ recommends the concat filter when re-encoding is needed.

Note: This device is not compatible with Linux.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (5-in-1, 4K HDMI), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
- Choose a common output canvas; scale and pad inputs as needed.
- Set a consistent frame rate and pixel format for the filtered video streams.
- Make audio streams consistent, including resampling and mapping, or handle files without audio deliberately.
- Feed the normalized streams to the concat filter and encode a single output with stable settings for the YouTube ingest you selected.
The exact filter graph and encoding settings depend on the source files and target resolution and frame rate. Do not copy a one-size-fits-all command without checking stream layouts. See FFmpeg’s FAQ on concatenating video files.
Check YouTube ingest format and health
Read the message and timestamp beside the stream-health indicator in Live Control Room. YouTube documents H.264 video and AAC audio as the expected live format for this configuration and calls out issues such as a mismatched video bitrate, unsupported or missing audio, and multiple audio streams. Correct the diagnosed issue and re-check health rather than changing codec or bitrate flags blindly.

The API also exposes stream status, health and configuration issue details. Use those values alongside FFmpeg progress to identify whether data is arriving and whether YouTube reports an ingest problem. YouTube documents RTMP, HLS and DASH ingestion types; these are diagnostic context, not a reason to share your stream key. Never publish or send your stream key to someone offering to troubleshoot.

Choose the transition method that fits your files
| Method | Best fit | Trade-off to check |
|---|---|---|
| Concat demuxer | Inputs with matching streams, codecs and time bases | Avoids re-encoding, but has stricter compatibility requirements; inaccurate durations can disrupt later timestamps. |
| Concat filter plus encoding | Inputs that need normalization to a consistent output | Requires encoding resources, but lets you standardize video and audio streams. |
Whichever method you use, keep the output configuration steady and use both FFmpeg progress and YouTube health diagnostics to isolate a transition failure.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is to keep uploaded videos playing as a YouTube live stream without maintaining an FFmpeg process at home, StreamNeo runs the sequence in the cloud. Upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Your computer and home connection do not have to stay on; uploads stream as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot, with no re-encode or quality tiers. StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream.
