Windows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread
Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallOutdated Drivers Are Slowing You Down
One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware matchTo stream a still image with podcast episodes in a continuous YouTube Live broadcast, make an FFmpeg concat playlist, loop that audio input with -stream_loop -1, loop the image separately, map the image and audio explicitly, and encode the output as H.264 video with AAC audio. Then send it to the RTMPS ingest address and stream key shown in YouTube Live Control Room.
Prepare an episode playlist
Put the MP3 files in the order you want them to play, then create episodes.txt with one file line per episode. For ordinary filenames without apostrophes or unusual characters:
file 'episode-01.mp3'
file 'episode-02.mp3'
file 'episode-03.mp3'
The concat demuxer resolves relative paths from the playlist file’s location. You can use absolute paths instead. The example command uses -safe 0, which permits paths the demuxer otherwise restricts; only use it with a playlist you control and trust. Filenames needing special handling must follow FFmpeg’s concat-demuxer quoting and escaping rules rather than being copied into the simple example unchanged.
Run FFmpeg with a still image and looping audio
Replace artwork.jpg with the still image path and replace the destination placeholder with the RTMPS ingest URL and stream key for your YouTube event:

What the options do
-repaces file input in real time for streaming.-loop 1 -framerate 1makes the image2 input provide a continuing still-image video source. The audio playlist has its own separate loop.-stream_loop -1repeats the concat input indefinitely; FFmpeg defines-1as infinite looping.-map 0:v:0 -map 1:a:0selects the image video stream from input 0 and the playlist audio stream from input 1.-c:v libx264encodes H.264 video;-c:a aacencodes AAC audio. Check that your installed FFmpeg build includes both encoders.-r 30sets output to 30 frames per second, and-g 60with a 30 fps output corresponds to a two-second GOP/keyframe interval.-keyint_min 60and-sc_threshold 0keep keyframe spacing consistent in this example.-b:v 4M -maxrate 4M -bufsize 8Mare example video rate-control values, not a universal YouTube setting. Set resolution and bitrate to match the event’s chosen output and the bandwidth available to you.-b:a 128k -ar 44100set the example AAC audio bitrate and sample rate.-f flvselects the output container used for this RTMP(S) workflow.-shortestis omitted because the goal is a continuous stream.
This is a practical starting pattern, not a command verified on a particular operating system, FFmpeg version, or machine. FFmpeg builds differ in available encoders and syntax details; inspect your installed build and confirm that the selected encoders are available before relying on it for an event.
Match the YouTube event’s live settings
Get the destination and protect the key
- In YouTube Live Control Room, create or open the live event and retrieve its stream URL and stream key. Use the event’s provided ingest destination in place of the command placeholder. YouTube’s live-stream setup guidance describes setting up an encoder stream.
- Treat the stream key like a password. Do not publish it in a script, screenshot, or command transcript that other people can access.
- YouTube recommends RTMPS. Check the current event settings in Live Control Room before starting, since the destination and key are event-specific.
Choose compatible output values
YouTube’s general encoder guidance for RTMP/RTMPS lists H.264 video and AAC or MP3 audio, recommends CBR, supports up to 60 fps, and recommends a two-second keyframe interval that does not exceed four seconds. The example uses H.264, AAC, 30 fps, and a two-second interval. Its 4 Mbps video value is only a starting example: YouTube’s current H.264 guidance accessed in 2026 lists these live bitrate figures:

| Output | Minimum video bitrate | Recommended video bitrate |
|---|---|---|
| 720p at 30 fps | 3 Mbps | 8 Mbps |
| 1080p at 30 fps | 5 Mbps | 14 Mbps |
These are YouTube’s published guidance values, not a guarantee of stream quality or a replacement for the setting shown for your event. Align the encoder’s resolution and bitrate with the event configuration and your upload capacity. For the recommendations and supported encoder settings, see YouTube’s live encoder settings.
Test and monitor before a public broadcast
- Run a private or unlisted test using representative audio and the same image, command, and output settings you plan to use.
- Confirm that the playlist advances from one episode to the next and that audio remains continuous. FFmpeg’s playlist loop does not normalize loudness or reconcile different source levels; the documentation cited here does not prescribe cross-episode loudness processing.
- Check YouTube’s stream-health indicators during the test and event. YouTube’s encoder guidance says, “Make sure to test before you start your live stream.”
- Leave network headroom. YouTube recommends 20% upload-bandwidth headroom and notes that a network disruption can break a stream. See YouTube’s streaming tips.
Choose the right looping approach
Separate MP3 episodes
Use the concat demuxer playlist shown above when you want a simple editable order of separate files. You can reorder or add episodes by changing the playlist. The audio inputs should be checked for gaps, incompatible properties, and uneven loudness; the playlist itself does not perform loudness matching.

One already-concatenated audio file
If the episodes are already combined into one file, you can loop that file directly instead of using the concat demuxer. Keep -stream_loop -1 on the audio input, retain the still-image input, and map the relevant streams. This removes the separate playlist but makes episode-order edits less convenient.
Looping the picture
The command loops the still image with image2’s input -loop option. FFmpeg also documents a video loop filter for repeating decoded frames; its loop=-1 setting means infinite loops. The input option and filter repeat at different stages of processing, so the input-loop pattern is the simpler fit for a single static artwork file.

Troubleshoot common failures
- “Unknown encoder” or encoder initialization failure: the installed build may not include
libx264or AAC encoding. Check the build’s available encoders and use an FFmpeg build with the required support, or adapt the command to an available compatible encoder. - Playlist cannot find an episode: check that each path is correct relative to
episodes.txt, or use valid absolute paths. Confirm that the playlist is the file being passed to FFmpeg. - Playlist path is rejected: the concat demuxer applies safe-path restrictions by default. The example uses
-safe 0to allow other paths; use that option only with a trusted playlist. - YouTube reports an unstable or incompatible stream: verify the event destination and key, the configured resolution and bitrate, the two-second keyframe interval, and the available upload bandwidth. Compare the encoder values with the event and YouTube’s guidance rather than assuming the example values fit every setup.
- The stream ends unexpectedly: the command is designed to loop the audio and image independently and omits
-shortest. Check FFmpeg’s error output, local network stability, and YouTube stream health; a network interruption can break the stream. - Episodes have inconsistent volume or audible gaps: inspect the source files and playlist transitions. The looping command does not itself establish consistent loudness or seamless episode boundaries.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is a YouTube channel that stays live around the clock, StreamNeo is the #1 option to consider: it loops uploaded recordings or playlists from the cloud, accepts your video as uploaded up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and gives the first day free with no card. Upload your recording or playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Your computer and home connection do not have to stay on, and StreamNeo can recover automatically if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card; after that, the monthly option is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo streams to YouTube and plays uploaded videos rather than going live from a camera.
