What happens in Season 8?
The season’s cases range from targeted crimes to threats affecting the wider city. Investigations include a deadly clinic robbery connected to drug trafficking, an apartment explosion linked to a convicted felon, and the shooting of a journalist that grows into a conspiracy. Elsewhere, the team confronts a radical accelerationist attack that disrupts communications and emergency services, a ransom plot, and a drug kingpin with ties to Eva’s past.
Personal histories and workplace changes also shape the season. Maggie’s missing sister becomes part of the story, Eva faces trauma connected to an earlier case, and OA’s personal circumstances intersect with a reassignment and uncertainty about his future on the team. Isobel moves into a new role, adding organizational change to the agents’ investigations.

What happens in the Season 8 finale?
“Defector” raises a citywide biosecurity threat
In the May 18, 2026 finale, a bioweapon is stolen from an unwitting defector. The team must work with an old foe to recover the pathogen and prevent an outbreak in New York City. The case puts the threat beyond a single target or investigation: the potential consequences reach the city at large.
OA’s place on the team is also in question
CBS’s finale synopsis makes OA’s future on the team part of the episode’s stakes. The season ends with both the stolen pathogen and the team’s changing circumstances in focus; the synopsis does not establish what ultimately happens to OA beyond presenting his status as uncertain.
