Fátima Bosch Fernández, representing Mexico, won the 74th Miss Universe competition in Thailand on November 21, 2025. Thailand’s Praveenar Singh was first runner-up, followed by Venezuela’s Stephany Abasali. Bosch’s victory came after a public confrontation at an earlier event and amid a separate dispute over allegations that finalists had been preselected. Those allegations and the organization’s denial are documented; the available reporting does not establish that the result was rigged.

Why did Miss Mexico walk out?
The confrontation happened on November 4, during a livestreamed sashing ceremony attended by more than 100 contestants, according to the Associated Press. Thai national director Nawat Itsaragrisil criticized Bosch over an alleged failure to follow his guidelines for local promotional activities. Bosch spoke up and left the room; several contestants followed her, including reigning Miss Universe Victoria Kjær Theilvig.

Bosch said Itsaragrisil called her “dumb”; he denied using that word. The Miss Universe Organization’s president, Raúl Rocha Cantú, condemned Itsaragrisil’s conduct as “public aggression” and “serious abuse,” as AP reported. Itsaragrisil later apologized for the incident. The precise wording of the exchange remains disputed.
Speaking to Thai reporters afterward, Bosch said: “If it takes away your dignity, you need to go.” Mexico’s president Claudia Sheinbaum praised Bosch for speaking up when she felt she had experienced an injustice. The Associated Press account of the confrontation reports Bosch’s account, Itsaragrisil’s denial and the responses.

Was Miss Universe 2025 rigged?
Before the November 21 final, former judge Omar Harfouch resigned and alleged that an unauthorized group had preselected 30 finalists. The Miss Universe Organization denied that an “impromptu jury” had been created, saying the accusation appeared to concern a separate judging panel for the Beyond the Crown social-impact initiative. The Guardian also reported that judge Claude Makelele resigned, citing personal reasons.
The organization’s statement, quoted by the Guardian, said: “The Miss Universe Organization firmly clarifies that no impromptu jury has been created, that no external group has been authorized to evaluate delegates or select finalists.” That statement is the organization’s denial, not an independent audit of the judging process.
