Vin Diesel told Variety that filming for the Fast X follow-up is expected to start in December 2026. The report calls the film Fast Forever; it does not cite a separate confirmation of that schedule from Universal. An earlier target of March 2026 has passed.
When is Fast X Part 2 expected to start filming?
The latest located filming window is December 2026. In its August 18, 2026 report, Variety attributed the expected start to Vin Diesel. That makes December Diesel’s reported intention, not a Universal schedule independently confirmed in the report.

The report establishes an intended start, not that cameras have begun rolling. It also does not establish a release date.
Is Fast Forever the same movie as Fast X Part 2?
Earlier coverage refers to the follow-up as Fast X Part 2 or Fast X: Part 2. Variety used Fast Forever in its 2026 reports about the same Fast X finale project. The different names reflect how the project has been referred to in coverage; the sources do not establish a separate film.

Universal describes Fast X as the saga’s tenth film and says it launched the final chapters. That context is why the follow-up is commonly framed as the franchise finale, though the schedule report alone does not provide further production details. Universal’s film page identifies Fast X as the tenth installment.
How does the December window compare with the earlier target?

What is known about the delays?
The available reports establish that the earlier March 2026 target passed and that the project remained in development. They do not provide a complete, authoritative account of why the schedule changed. It would be misleading to state that budgets, script changes, or production logistics definitively caused the delay based on these reports alone.
In a July 2026 report, Variety quoted Diesel describing the work on the ending: “Over the past three and a half years, we’ve been grinding to try to make the most amazing finale.” This is Diesel’s own characterization of the effort, not an independently measured production timeline or explanation for the schedule shift.
