There isn’t a defensible, verified “best 20” ranking in the available title-level evidence: reader recommendations identify candidates, but most have not been confirmed against a current official English listing. Rather than present an unverified list as fact, this guide explains how to find fantasy BL that fits your preferred setting and what to check before you start.

The useful starting standard is Korean manhwa with a fantasy, supernatural, historical or mythic, or game-system setting; BL that is central or materially present; and an official English source available when you check. If you want magic, vampires, isekai, or a longer read, those preferences are more helpful than a popularity ranking.

What counts as fantasy BL manhwa?

“Fantasy” covers several different reading experiences. Some stories put magic or supernatural creatures at the center; others use a historical or mythic world, reincarnation, or game-like mechanics. A speculative setting alone does not establish that a series is BL: look for a relationship that is central to the story or meaningfully developed alongside its main plot.

That distinction matters if you want a substantial fantasy plot as well as a romance. In some series the supernatural conflict drives the action; in others it primarily creates the circumstances for the relationship. Check the official synopsis and sample chapters to see which balance you prefer.

How to choose a series that fits your taste

If you want magic, monsters, or vampires

Search official English catalogs for explicit fantasy or supernatural labels, then confirm the premise in the synopsis. A creature or magic system can be a major part of the plot or only a backdrop, so the genre tag alone will not tell you how much fantasy story to expect.

If you want isekai or game-like mechanics

Look for descriptions mentioning reincarnation, a fictional world, quests, stats, or other system elements. These are useful signals for a game-influenced setup, but they do not guarantee that the relationship or the fantasy conflict will receive equal attention.

If you want historical or mythic fantasy

Check whether the official description identifies a mythological setting, supernatural beings, or an invented historical world. Historical atmosphere by itself does not confirm a fantasy premise, and a familiar mythic setting can still vary widely in tone and romance focus.

If you want a long read

Use the licensed platform’s current series page to check whether a title is ongoing or completed and how many chapters are available. Reader discussions and older recommendation pages can point you toward candidates, but they are not reliable confirmation of current chapter counts or completion status. Availability may also depend on region.

Two catalog-confirmed starting points

Toomics’ English catalog explicitly labels Around the Tiger and Settia with both BL and Fantasy categories and displays completion markers for each. Those labels make them clear candidates if you want both genres, while the completion marker can help if you prefer a finished series. Check the live catalog for current access and status, since listings and availability can change. Browse the Toomics English catalog.

Why this is not a verified top-20 list

Reader discussions offer a useful set of leads, including Dreaming of the Dokkaebi, Fate Makes No Mistake, Stuck in My Sister’s Dating Sim, Blood Bank, Dear Door, Devil at the Crossroads, It’s Just a Dream… Right?, Ennead, Biting the Tiger, Once Upon a Deal, Full Moon Alchemist, Traces of the Sun, I Can See Your Stats, Turning, Regas, Kings Maker, Antidote, Save the Hunter (also discussed as Mission: Save the Hunter), and Necromancer Survival. A fan guide also recommends Woof Wolf, describing its werewolf premise and calling it complete.

These are recommendations made in response to fantasy-BL requests, not a verified ranking or proof of current official English availability, genre classification, completion, chapter count, or content suitability. Confirm each series on its licensed platform before choosing it; do not rely on an unofficial scan listing for access or status.

Official English access, status, and content notes

  • Confirm the English listing: Search the publisher or licensed platform’s own catalog, and check that the title is available in your region.
  • Check the current status: Use the series page for completion, ongoing status, and available chapter count. Treat older articles and reader comments as leads rather than current records.
  • Read the official synopsis and labels: Confirm that both the speculative setting and the BL relationship match what you want. Check platform content notices where relevant; do not assume a title’s maturity level from its genre.
  • Consider print separately: Ize Press promotes BL comics in print, but its highlighted titles are not a fantasy-only selection. A publisher’s general BL print feature does not establish that a particular fantasy recommendation has a print edition. Check the title’s own publisher listing if you collect physical books. Visit Ize Press.
