Yes. A sequel to Alien: Romulus is in development: director Fede Álvarez said in September 2025 that the script was finished and that he would produce the film with Ridley Scott, while handing directing duties to someone else. A 2026 report said it remained in early development, with no release date announced. No director has been officially confirmed.
What has been confirmed about the sequel?
In a September 5, 2025 report, TheWrap quoted Álvarez saying, “We just finished the script, actually, for a sequel for ‘Romulus.’” He said he would pass the director role to another filmmaker and produce the sequel with Ridley Scott; the screenplay was written with co-writer Rodo Sayagues. TheWrap’s report is the clearest public update on the project’s development.

A completed script and producer plans are meaningful signs of progress, but they do not guarantee that a film will enter production or reach theaters. TheWrap reported that the first Alien: Romulus earned $350 million worldwide.
Is Fede Álvarez directing?
Álvarez said he would not direct the sequel. His plan is to produce it with Ridley Scott and find a new filmmaker to take the helm, according to TheWrap.

How the sequel moved from an idea to a finished script
In a November 22, 2024 interview with io9, Álvarez said he and Sayagues had ideas, but were still searching for a story worth making. He emphasized that they did not want to make a sequel simply because the first film was successful. The io9 interview captures that earlier stage; the completed-script update came later, in September 2025.
The original Alien: Romulus was released August 16, 2024. 20th Century Studios lists Álvarez as director and Álvarez and Sayagues as writers, with Ridley Scott among the producers. The studio describes its story as following young space colonizers who scavenge a derelict station and encounter a deadly life form. 20th Century Studios’ film page
