The Fantastic Four: First Steps follows the established team as they defend their alternate-universe home, Earth-828, from Galactus and try to protect Reed and Sue Richards’ son, Franklin. The film is not an origin story, and the official plot details do not confirm Doctor Strange appears in it. Its connection to the wider MCU is framed through the Fantastic Four’s future role, not a confirmed Strange crossover.
What is the confirmed plot of The Fantastic Four: First Steps?
Marvel’s First Family—Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic (Pedro Pascal), Sue Storm/Invisible Woman (Vanessa Kirby), Johnny Storm/Human Torch (Joseph Quinn), and Ben Grimm/The Thing (Ebon Moss-Bachrach)—protects Earth-828, a retro-futuristic alternate universe shaped by a 1960s-inspired aesthetic. The team is already established when the story begins: Disney says the film opens four years after cosmic rays gave the four their abilities, rather than retelling how they became heroes. The threat is Galactus (Ralph Ineson), who endangers the planet and targets Franklin. That makes the conflict both a threat to the world and a personal crisis for Reed and Sue’s family. Disney’s official synopsis and cast interviews describe that central premise; they do not establish further plot twists.
Is it an origin story?
No. The heroes’ powers and the four years since their exposure to cosmic rays are part of the film’s backstory. The story begins with them operating as a team and public figures, leaving room to focus on their family, their responsibilities, and the danger Galactus brings.

- Set against the backdrop of a ?60s-inspired, retro-futuristic world, Marvel?s First Family faces a daunting challenge. Forced to balance being heroes with their family bond, they must defend Earth from a space god and his enigmatic herald.
Is Doctor Strange in The Fantastic Four: First Steps?
There is no confirmed Doctor Strange role in the plot details and interviews cited here. The film’s alternate-universe setting and Marvel’s broader multiverse story do not, by themselves, prove that Stephen Strange appears. It is accurate to say that a Doctor Strange connection has not been confirmed—not to state that he is in the film or to treat the available material as proof that a future crossover cannot happen.

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige described First Steps as an introduction to the Fantastic Four and discussed the team’s future in MCU stories, including Avengers: Doomsday. He also said viewers would see the Fantastic Four’s universe in that film. His comments establish a planned broader connection, but they do not confirm Doctor Strange in First Steps. Feige described the film’s role this way: “We couldn’t use them, so this movie is the intro going, ‘Here they are. Get to know them. Hopefully you’ll love them.’” He was discussing why the Fantastic Four had not featured in earlier MCU stories and how this film introduces the team. His remarks about future MCU planning and the multiverse are context for the franchise’s direction, not evidence of an unannounced character appearance.
