Two waves of renewed activity followed the show
After Season 1 premiered in April 2024, reports recorded higher Steam activity for Fallout 4, Fallout: New Vegas, and Fallout 76. Ars Technica noted that Steam figures cover people playing through Steam, not console players or people using other PC storefronts (Ars Technica, April 2024). Game Developer reported that SteamDB counts for the three games doubled around the April 11 premiere period; it also pointed out that console activity, including Xbox and Game Pass, is harder to track publicly (Game Developer, April 2024).

A second reported wave followed Season 2’s December 2025 start. PC Gamer compared Steam peak concurrent-player figures in November 2025 with January 2026, finding substantially higher peaks for the same three titles (PC Gamer, January 6, 2026).
How much did Steam peaks rise after Season 2?
These are peak concurrent users: the highest number playing at the same time during the reported month. They are not counts of unique players across a month, nor totals across platforms.

PC Gamer reported these SteamDB figures in January 2026. Fallout 4 had the highest January peak among the three examples; New Vegas and Fallout 76 also recorded notable increases. This comparison identifies the largest peak, not necessarily the largest relative increase or the greatest number of returning people across all platforms.
What the numbers can—and cannot—show
They are a useful signal, not an all-platform census
A concurrent-player peak captures simultaneous activity on Steam. It does not tell you how many distinct people played over a longer period, and it excludes console players and users on other PC storefronts. Since the games are available beyond Steam, the reported figures understate the broader audience while still offering a consistent public measure of activity on that storefront.

The timing supports an association, not proof of sole cause
The rises followed the two seasons’ starts, which is consistent with the show prompting viewers to revisit the games or try them for the first time. But the Season 2 report also noted winter discounts across other role-playing games and a themed update for Fallout Shelter. Those factors make it too strong to attribute every increase solely to the television series.
Fallout 76’s team confirmed a Season 1 influx
In an official Xbox Wire year-end 2025 interview, the Fallout 76 team recalled that after Season 1 arrived, “we saw an amazing number of players, both new and old, come in and play” (Xbox Wire, December 18, 2025). That firsthand statement supports the account of a real influx for Fallout 76, but it is qualitative: it gives no player count and does not establish a cross-platform total.

Is there evidence of a continuing surge in late 2026?
The reported figures establish two distinct periods of increased activity: one around Season 1 in April 2024 and another after Season 2 began in December 2025, with January 2026 peaks reported for three games. They do not establish uninterrupted growth or a current late-2026 surge. No late-2026 player-count series or official all-platform total is available in the cited reporting, so claims about present-day counts would go beyond the evidence.
