It turns a spreadsheet into a map-and-quest hub with optional turn-based battles; it is inspired by Fallout, not an established official Fallout release.
What is “Fallout but in Excel”?
Created by The StoryTeller, also known as Dynamic Pear, the game is set in Mercer, a post-apocalyptic world. Its premise begins: “It is the 145th year of the second age. Life in Mercer is unrecognisable to that which came earlier – The bombs saw to that. Humanity may never fully recover…” The creator describes it as a Fallout-inspired adventure, not an official Fallout game. Gizmodo reported on the project on April 27, 2024; the creator’s page contains the game description and download.
The format is the hook: instead of a conventional game interface, the adventure is presented in a workbook. The creator’s page labels the downloadable file fallout-like-excel-rpg_v2 and links a tutorial video.
How the workbook RPG plays
The creator divides play into “Mapping and Questing” and “Battling.” These mechanics are described in the creator’s instructions; they are not independently tested observations.

Mapping and Questing
The Map tab acts as the central hub. Players move their party using arrow buttons. The creator’s instructions mark towns, shelters, and quest locations in purple, while green indicates land the party can move across. Exploration and quests are therefore organized around navigating the map and visiting its locations.
Battling
When combat is enabled, encounters can feature one to five enemies. The creator describes the battles as using simplified D&D-style rules: initiative sets turn order, movement and range matter for attacks, hit rolls involve armor class and probability, and damage depends on the weapon or attack and scales with level.

Choose whether to include combat
The creator’s new-campaign instructions include a “Disable Battle” setting. Set it to yes for a peaceful campaign focused on mapping and quests; leave battles enabled for the combat system described above.
What to expect from the Excel format
The creator says the game is made for Excel. In a reply to a LibreOffice user dated May 17, 2024, The StoryTeller wrote: “It’s only made for excel – but was worth checking it out in Libre!” That is a compatibility caveat, not a guarantee that the workbook works in LibreOffice. The available creator information does not identify a supported Excel version, operating system, or platform.

The creator’s page offers the workbook download and describes the games as free, with optional donations presented as one-time, monthly, and yearly choices. A download was listed on the page when described, but its current availability and whether the file has changed are not established.
