Is the actor who plays Ezra autistic?
Director Tony Goldwyn said in a Directors Guild of America Q&A published June 22, 2024: “We knew we were going to cast an autistic actor to play Ezra.” William A. Fitzgerald plays the title character. That casting choice is relevant to the film’s representation, but one performance should not be treated as representing every autistic person or experience.
When was Ezra released?
Tribeca announced an advance screening for April 29, 2024. Rotten Tomatoes lists May 31, 2024, as the wide theatrical release date. Apple TV identifies it as a 2024 film with a runtime of about 1 hour 41 minutes.
Rank #2
Where can you watch Ezra?
The film is listed for digital rental or purchase. Bleecker Street’s official store lists a $5.99 rental and a $14.99 purchase; those are changeable storefront prices, so check the listing for the current amount. Prime Video also lists rental and purchase options and shows Blu-ray from $12.19. Availability, regional rights, seller, format and price can change.
What is the rating, and is it suitable for children?
Ezra is rated R for language, drug use and some sexual references. That rating and the listed content make it a poor default choice for younger children; caregivers should consider their child’s age and sensitivity. Apple TV’s listing includes closed captions and audio descriptions.

Is Ezra worth watching?
The film’s appeal rests on its performances and the friction between a recognizable family road-movie setup and a story about autism and co-parenting. Rotten Tomatoes’ consensus praises the performances’ emotional core while noting that the script can strain credulity. That balance points to a sincere, sometimes sentimental dramedy rather than a documentary or a guide to autism.
