Spoilers for the series finale, “Fear of the End.” Evil ends the assessors’ shared work, but not the larger story of evil surrounding them. Leland is contained rather than killed, Kristen moves her family to Rome, and the final image of baby Timothy leaves one last unsettling question. The friends get a meaningful farewell; the supernatural conflict stays open.
What happens at the end of Evil?
In “Fear of the End,” the Church shuts down the assessors’ program. The team’s old routine ends: Kristen returns to work as a psychologist, Ben takes a technology job, and David continues his church work. The three friends burn their case files and reflect on how investigating the cases changed them. TVLine’s recap of the finale describes the shutdown and the team’s parting.
The immediate confrontation does not erase the danger posed by The 60. Leland attacks Kristen, who incapacitates him. David and Ben later help confine him in a demonic cabinet at a silent monastery. Kristen and her family then relocate to Rome for a new opportunity connected to the Church.
Is Leland dead in the Evil finale?
No. The finale shows Leland being locked in the cabinet, not killed. That distinction matters: the scene resolves the immediate threat by containing him, but it does not establish that he is gone for good. In an interview with TV Guide, the Kings discussed the cabinet as a potentially temporary solution, noting that people can get out of cabinets. Their TV Guide interview supports reading Leland’s fate as unresolved rather than definitive.

What does the ending mean for Kristen and David?
Kristen and David remain emotionally close, but the finale does not turn that bond into a conventional romantic resolution. David’s vows and the characters’ other obligations stand between them. As Robert King put it in a Los Angeles Times interview, “But at least Kristen and David are in the same universe.” It is a wry note of hope, not a promise that they will build a life together.
The more concrete farewell belongs to the trio’s work and routine. Their case files are gone and their jobs have changed, but the ending treats their friendship as something that survives the program’s closure. That gives the characters emotional closure without pretending every relationship or conflict has been settled.

Is baby Timothy the Antichrist?
The finale does not provide a definitive label or explanation. In its closing scene, Kristen notices Timothy’s eyes flicker white and his teeth turn sharp, then carries on with her day. The Los Angeles Times describes the moment as a sign that something is amiss and connects Kristen’s choice to her maternal instincts. The image raises the danger again without resolving exactly what Timothy is or what he will become.
Why is the finale more “so long” than “goodbye”?
The episode closes a chapter—the assessors’ program and the characters’ familiar working life—while leaving the larger supernatural story active. Leland is contained, not confirmed dead; the threat represented by The 60 is not eliminated; and Timothy’s final appearance unsettles any easy belief that the next generation is safe. The goodbye is real, but it is not a seal on the story.

The creators described that balance as intentional. Robert King said, “In general, our attitude toward endings is cheerful cynicism.” Michelle King explained, “We wanted to end the story in a way that was satisfying to the viewers and felt like a conclusion and, yet, still allowed for the option of telling more stories, if that were ever a possibility.” Michael Emerson, who plays Leland, similarly told TheWrap, “The finale has winners and losers, but most everybody is left still standing.”
Those comments describe the ending’s design, not a continuation announcement. The Kings said they would have continued for two more seasons, but that was their creative wish, not confirmation of a renewal or new episodes.

Will Evil come back after the finale?
The finale leaves room for more stories, and its creators said they were open to that possibility. But the interviews do not announce a continuation, and the series ends with “Fear of the End.” A possible future story should not be confused with a confirmed follow-up.

Paramount+ is the official streaming context for the series and finale coverage, but streaming catalogs vary by country and over time. Check the service’s listing in your market before subscribing or assuming the finale is currently available there.
