The new version presents the saga as a single feature. Lionsgate describes it as an unrated epic that joins both volumes and adds a new anime sequence. It should therefore be understood as a revised, unified presentation of the existing story—not a remake, sequel, spin-off, or third installment.
The distinction matters. Watching the two original films one after another gives viewers the same broad narrative, but it does not necessarily reproduce the exact edit, rating presentation, added material, or transition between sections of The Whole Bloody Affair. The unified cut is marketed as the version Tarantino intended to present as one complete film.
The story: The Bride’s revenge campaign
The central character is a former assassin known by the codename Black Mamba, later identified as Beatrix Kiddo and usually called The Bride. At her wedding rehearsal, she is attacked and left for dead by Bill, her former boss and lover. She falls into a coma, and when she eventually awakens, she begins hunting the people responsible.
The targets are the surviving members of the Deadly Viper Assassination Squad, the elite group with which The Bride was once associated. Her campaign is intended to eliminate the surviving Vipers one by one before she reaches Bill. The story’s emotional engine is not simply revenge for the attack: Bill is also connected to The Bride’s lost pregnancy and to the life she attempted to leave behind.
Although its structure is built around a revenge mission, the film shifts through several cinematic modes. It combines martial-arts spectacle, crime melodrama, spaghetti-western-influenced confrontations, and imagery drawn from classic Japanese samurai cinema. The result is deliberately stylized: the film treats its violence as operatic and genre-conscious rather than presenting itself as a realistic crime drama.

What changed from the original two films?
The most important change is editorial. The Whole Bloody Affair turns the two-volume project into one film rather than asking viewers to treat two separate theatrical releases as a pair. This appears to be a presentation and scheduling figure rather than evidence of an entirely different movie. When reporting the runtime, the clearest wording is:

Someone studying how the project reached audiences in 2003 and 2004 may reasonably prefer to watch the original volumes separately. Someone seeking the complete long-form presentation will likely prefer The Whole Bloody Affair.
