Former Nickelodeon performers have responded to Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV in different ways: some described personal experiences on camera, while others commented after the documentary was released. Kenan Thompson expressed sympathy and called for further investigation; Josh Peck and Melissa Joan Hart voiced support for people who spoke out; and Alexa Nikolas criticized Dan Schneider’s response. These are representative statements, not a complete account of every Nickelodeon alum’s views.
What the documentary presented—and why the distinction matters
Quiet on Set features accounts from former child performers and crew members about alleged abuse and workplace conditions on Nickelodeon productions. A person who appears in the documentary to recount an experience is not in the same position as an alum who later reacts to the series. The statements below include both, and they do not amount to a single shared view among Nickelodeon stars.
Former performers who appeared in the documentary
Drake Bell described abuse by dialogue coach Brian Peck
Bell’s on-camera account concerned Brian Peck, a dialogue coach—not Dan Schneider. Bell said Peck abused him when Bell was 15. TIME quoted him describing the abuse as “extensive” and saying, “it got pretty brutal,” adding that he did not know how to elaborate on camera. TIME’s coverage recounts Bell’s account and Nickelodeon’s response.
In a later interview, Bell said becoming a father helped motivate him to speak publicly. He wondered whether his son would hear the story from someone else or whether Bell would be there to tell it himself. TheWrap reported that Bell also said Josh Peck had reached out privately and asked people to give Peck space as he processed the documentary.

Alexa Nikolas spoke about Zoey 101 and later criticized Schneider’s response
Nikolas, who played Nicole Bristow on Zoey 101, appeared in the series and described her character as “like kid eye candy.” She also said jokes on the show carried inappropriate sexual undertones. After Dan Schneider gave a response interview, Nikolas said she did not consider it proper accountability. The Los Angeles Times quoted her saying she did not forgive him, while leaving open whether that might change, and that the interview avoided many of the main discussions raised in Quiet on Set.
Nickelodeon alumni who reacted after the series
Kenan Thompson called the stories difficult to hear and urged further investigation
Thompson, known for All That and Kenan & Kel, called the documentary “definitely tough to watch.” Speaking to Tamron Hall, he said he had fond memories of the workplace and his co-stars, so hearing that people had gone through terrible things was difficult. He expressed sympathy for anyone victimized and their families, and called putting stories that needed accountability on display “a good thing.”

Thompson also said the allegations discussed concerned events after his tenure and that he did not want to comment on things he had not witnessed. When told Nickelodeon’s production company said it had investigated claims, he responded: “Well, investigate more.” The Los Angeles Times reported his remarks.
Josh Peck supported survivors and contacted Drake Bell privately
Peck did not appear in the documentary. In a public statement after watching it, he said he had reached out to his former co-star Bell and wanted to support survivors who shared stories of emotional and physical abuse on Nickelodeon sets. “Children should be protected,” he said, expressing hope that the public conversation could help victims and families heal and bring necessary change to the industry. Us Weekly published his statement.

Melissa Joan Hart said she believed people making allegations
Hart, a former Clarissa Explains It All star, commented on other people’s allegations rather than offering a new account of events on the documentary’s productions. On Meghan McCain’s podcast, she said: “I absolutely trust them, believe them, a hundred percent.” Vanity Fair reported her remarks.
Devon Werkheiser and Madisyn Shipman addressed their own reactions
Ned’s Declassified School Survival Guide performer Devon Werkheiser apologized after a podcast clip appeared to show him laughing about the documentary. Game Shakers performer Madisyn Shipman said she was sharing her own experience and was not trying to discredit anyone else’s experience or trauma. TheWrap reported both statements. Neither should be read as a general defense of, or endorsement of, the documentary.

Keep Bell’s account separate from claims about Dan Schneider
Bell’s account identifies Brian Peck as the person who abused him. It should not be conflated with the separate allegations and discussion concerning Schneider. The Associated Press reported that Schneider sued the documentary’s makers, alleging that the series wrongly implied he sexually abused child actors; the AP also reported his denials. A lawsuit allegation is not a finding that Schneider was responsible for Bell’s abuse. The Associated Press’s report describes the suit and its claims.
TIME quoted Nickelodeon as saying it could not “corroborate or negate allegations of behaviors from productions decades ago.” The network also described its complaint-investigation policy and safeguards, and said it was dismayed and saddened to learn of Bell’s trauma. That statement represents Nickelodeon’s position; it does not independently verify every account.

What the reactions do—and do not—show
The comments differ in subject and purpose. Bell and Nikolas spoke about personal experiences in the series; Thompson addressed what he had and had not witnessed and called for more investigation; Peck and Hart expressed support for people speaking out; and Nikolas later assessed Schneider’s response. Taken together, the statements show a range of reactions, not a uniform verdict from Nickelodeon alumni.
