What is My Happy Marriage about?
Set in a supernatural version of Japan’s Taisho era, the story follows Miyo Saimori, a young woman mistreated by her birth family because she seems to lack the inherited gifts that confer status and influence. Her family sends her to marry Kiyoka Kudo, a powerful military officer with a reputation for being cold. Their arranged marriage becomes a relationship built on trust as Miyo begins to recognize her own worth and abilities. The official anime introduction describes the setting and premise, while Netflix’s official title-page description says the series follows Miyo as she discovers her “true self — and hidden strength” after meeting Kiyoka.

The anime adapts Akumi Agitogi’s novels, illustrated by Tsukiho Tsukioka. Kinema Citrus produces the TV series, directed by Takehiro Kubota. Netflix identifies Reina Ueda and Kaito Ishikawa as the Japanese voice leads. The official anime site reported 10 million copies in cumulative print and digital circulation for the novel series as of July 2026.
What should you remember from season 1?
Miyo’s early life is defined by rejection and abuse from the Saimori family. At Kiyoka’s household, she expects another cruel arrangement, but he treats her differently. As she grows more confident, the two develop affection and begin to build a future together.

The season also reveals that Miyo’s apparent lack of a valued gift concealed her Usuba heritage and Dream-Sight, a power connected to dreams. That ability becomes crucial when she enters Kiyoka’s dream to help save him. Season 1 therefore sets up both the couple’s emotional bond and the supernatural inheritance that drives the next conflict. The official episode guide covers the season’s events.

Season 2 moves the story beyond the Saimori household. Conflict over Miyo’s Usuba blood and Dream-Sight strains her relationship with Kiyoka, while supernatural incidents and political unrest widen the stakes. The Gifted Communion seeks to destabilize the state, bringing Miyo and Kiyoka into a broader crisis.

The season’s later episodes bring the conflict to a confrontation with Naoshi Usui and then show its aftermath. The official episode list runs through episode 26; by the end, the crisis has been resolved and Miyo and Kiyoka’s relationship continues toward marriage. The official introduction gives a spoiler-light premise, and the episode guide summarizes the full arc.
Is season 2 out, and what comes next?
Yes. The official anime site says season 2 began in January 2025, and its episode guide ends at episode 26. The next announced installment is a three-episode special continuing Miyo and Kiyoka’s story. The couple’s wedding has not yet taken place in the anime continuity described by the official site.
The special is scheduled to begin Japanese broadcast on October 25, 2026, with streaming from 20:30 JST that day. Netflix’s newsroom also lists an October 25 premiere. The Japanese schedule names local services; that lineup should not be assumed to apply outside Japan. Check the official schedule and local listings for regional availability.

Netflix has an official My Happy Marriage title page. Catalog access and audio or subtitle options can vary by country, so check the listing in your region. The Japanese schedule for the special also lists Netflix alongside services specific to Japan; it is not a global availability guide.

Should you read the novels or the manga?
The franchise has both Akumi Agitogi’s source novels, illustrated by Tsukiho Tsukioka, and a manga adaptation by Agitogi and artist Rito Kohsaka. The official catalog also lists an art book. These are distinct ways to explore the series, not a guarantee that each format maps one-to-one to a specific anime episode.
The Japanese official book catalog lists ten novel volumes, five manga volumes, an additional manga-volume edition with a booklet, and an art book. Confirm the language, edition, and availability with the retailer before buying.
