The Everybody Loves Raymond: 30th Anniversary Reunion remembered three late cast members—Doris Roberts, Peter Boyle and Sawyer Sweeten—with onstage remarks and a montage of their appearances. Ray Romano said the tribute reflected how much the performers meant to the cast and to the show’s on-screen family.
Which late cast members did the reunion honor?
The tribute remembered Doris Roberts, who played Marie Barone; Peter Boyle, who played Frank Barone; and Sawyer Sweeten, who played Geoffrey Barone. Roberts and Boyle portrayed Ray Barone’s parents, while Sweeten played one of Ray and Debra’s children. The series followed the Barone family from 1996 to 2005.

How did the cast pay tribute to them?
Before the special aired, Romano told TVLine that the cast knew it had to honor Roberts, Boyle and Sweeten. He said the group spoke about them and included a compilation featuring all three.
During the reunion, photos of the performers appeared as Romano explained why the cast would not try to continue the show without them: “We’re never going to do one because we’re missing three cast members — three family members.” The remark was Romano’s description of the cast’s approach, not a CBS announcement about future programming, according to TVLine’s recap.

What did Ray Romano remember about Peter Boyle?
The reunion was taped on what would have been Boyle’s 90th birthday, according to the Los Angeles Times. Romano recalled being nervous during a pilot rehearsal and Boyle reassuring him: “It’s just like water. Just let it flow.” The memory offered a personal glimpse of the support Romano said he received from his co-star early in the series.
How did Sawyer Sweeten’s siblings take part?
Sweeten’s siblings, Madylin and Sullivan, also spoke about their brother during the taping. The Los Angeles Times reported that Sullivan recalled positive moments with Sawyer, many from the show’s set. The segment connected the tribute to the family members who knew him beyond his role on the series.

No. The event was a retrospective, not a continuation of the Barones’ fictional story. The 90-minute CBS special, described in a TVLine preview published Nov. 19, 2025, brought cast and creator Phil Rosenthal together to revisit memories and clips, with recreated versions of the Barone living room and kitchen. Rosenthal told TV Insider that the reunion was not tightly scripted: “These [reunions] are usually scripted within an inch of their life, but we winged it.”
It was promoted as a 30th-anniversary special even though the series premiered in 1996; Romano and Rosenthal acknowledged the rounded anniversary in their TVLine interview.
