Justine Wilson: Musk’s first wife and the mother of six
Canadian author Justine Wilson married Musk in January 2000. They divorced in 2008. Together they had six children, although one died as an infant.
- Nevada Alexander Musk died from sudden infant death syndrome at 10 weeks old in 2002.
- Vivian Jenna Wilson, formerly publicly known as Xavier Musk, is one of the couple’s twins.
- Griffin Musk is Vivian’s twin.
- Kai Musk is one of the triplets born in 2006.
- Saxon Musk is one of the triplets.
- Damian Musk is the third triplet.
The twins were born in 2004 and the triplets in 2006 after IVF treatment. Wilson has generally avoided turning her children’s lives into public material, although she has written about Nevada’s death and the fertility treatment that followed.

Canadian musician Claire Boucher, known professionally as Grimes, has three children with Musk:
- X Æ A-Xii Musk, born in May 2020 and commonly called X. The spelling was modified from “X Æ A-12” to meet California naming requirements.
- Exa Dark Sideræl Musk, born by surrogate in December 2021 and commonly called Y.
- Techno Mechanicus Musk, a son born in June 2022 whose existence became public in 2023.
Grimes described her relationship with Musk as “very fluid” in 2022. She said they lived separately but remained close, and at that point called him her “best friend and the love of my life.” Those remarks describe the relationship at that time, not its later status.
By 2023–2025, the public story had shifted toward disputes over privacy and parental access. Grimes said she had asked Musk to keep their children out of public view and filed a petition concerning parental rights and custody in 2023. The sources reviewed do not establish a final, publicly reported resolution of every custody issue.

That makes Grimes and Musk’s relationship difficult to characterize as a settled co-parenting partnership. Their children are part of the same extended family as Musk’s other children, but public reporting does not show that Grimes, Wilson, Zilis and St. Clair jointly raise them.

Shivon Zilis: four children, disclosed in stages
Shivon Zilis, a technology executive associated with Neuralink and formerly with OpenAI, has four children with Musk. Their names are Strider Sekhar, Azure, Arcadia and Seldon Lycurgus.
Zilis gave birth to twins Strider and Azure in November 2021 through IVF. Their existence became public in 2022 after court documents revealed a petition seeking to give them Musk’s surname. Their daughter Arcadia was born in February 2024, but Zilis did not publicly disclose her existence until 2025.
On February 28, 2025, Zilis and Musk announced the birth of their son Seldon Lycurgus. That announcement changed several widely repeated totals: Zilis was no longer publicly identified as the mother of three of Musk’s children, but four, and Musk’s overall public count rose from 13 to 14.

Ashley St. Clair: one child and a public custody conflict
Writer and conservative influencer Ashley St. Clair announced on February 14, 2025, that she had given birth approximately five months earlier to a son she said was Musk’s. She said the birth had been kept private to protect the child, but that she disclosed it after learning tabloid media were preparing to report the story.

The child was publicly identified as Romulus, although St. Clair has also used initials and limited identifying information. Musk initially said he was not certain that he was the father. Later reporting by The Wall Street Journal said laboratory testing produced a 99.9999% probability that Musk was the biological father. Musk subsequently referred to the child as his son.
In January 2026, Musk said he intended to seek full custody of Romulus after St. Clair apologized for past anti-transgender comments. St. Clair responded publicly. The latest reporting reviewed describes the custody dispute as ongoing; it does not establish a final publicly reported custody ruling.
What is known about the proposed “blended family” arrangement?
A 2025 Wall Street Journal report described a proposed arrangement involving neighboring homes for Musk, several of the mothers and the children. Such an arrangement would place the households close together, but the report described a plan or vision—not proof that it was completed.
There is also no public evidence that the four mothers live together, share one household or have agreed to a single co-parenting structure. The documented relationships are more fragmented:
- Wilson and Musk are divorced, and Vivian has described herself as estranged from him.
- Grimes and Musk have had a fluctuating relationship, with public disagreements over privacy and custody.
- Zilis and Musk have disclosed their children in stages while keeping family details relatively private.
- St. Clair and Musk have been involved in a public paternity and custody dispute.
For that reason, “extended family” is a safer description than “blended family” when discussing the publicly available record. The children share a father, but the adults’ relationships and parenting arrangements are not publicly documented as one integrated system.
