What the montage is—and how this list counts it
Directed by Shawn Levy, Deadpool & Wolverine turns Wade’s search across universes into a rapid tour of Wolverine’s comic history. The appearances are mostly brief visual references, not fully introduced characters with separate story arcs.
This guide follows TheWrap’s seven-heading breakdown of the montage, treating the brown-suited Wolverine and Hulk moment as one entry. Other outlets arrive at different totals by counting additional figures or grouping the opening skeleton, the main Wolverine, and visual homages differently. There is no single settled count unless the counting method is specified.
The Wolverine variants and comic references
Short King Wolverine
This version turns Wolverine’s famously short comic stature into a joke. TheWrap gives his canonical comic height as 5 feet 3 inches and contrasts it with Hugh Jackman’s 6 feet 2 inches; those are TheWrap’s reported figures, not measurements newly established by the film. TheWrap’s variant guide

Patch
Patch is an established Wolverine identity: Logan’s white-suited, eyepatched disguise, used when he is undercover. The montage gives viewers a fleeting glimpse rather than a new explanation of the persona. TheWrap’s variant guide
Weapon Omega, or Apocalyptic Wolverine
The long-haired, one-handed Wolverine evokes the Age of Apocalypse storyline. Coverage uses more than one label for the look—“Weapon Omega” and “Apocalyptic Wolverine”—so the visual and its comic connection are more reliable identifiers than a single definitive name. Old Man Logan
An older-looking Wolverine in a cowboy hat sits on a porch and fires at Deadpool. The image recalls the alternate-world Old Man Logan story, rather than introducing that story’s full plot into the film. TheWrap’s variant guide
Crucified Wolverine

Brown-suited Wolverine and the Hulk
The brown-costumed Wolverine encounter draws on a John Byrne-inspired look, while the shot—including the reflection in Wolverine’s claws—pays homage to Todd McFarlane’s cover for The Incredible Hulk #340. The Cavillrine
Henry Cavill appears as a Wolverine variant in a playful cameo. Levy said Ryan Reynolds coined the name, and referred to Cavill’s credited character as the “Cavillerine”: “If we’re going to talk about him, we must call him by his actual credited name, the Cavillerine, which Ryan coined.” Variety’s interview with Shawn Levy

Why some variants get only a moment
Editor Shane Reid said the sequence began in a shorter form, with the mini-Wolverine, Patch, Apocalyptic Wolverine, and Cavillrine among the material already planned or shot. The editing team proposed expanding it, then added storyboards for more variants and incorporated further costumes and sets later in production. That development helps explain why the montage’s references range from instantly legible images to extremely brief appearances. Shane Reid on the sequence
