Here is the current release slate, separating released titles, firm dates, broad windows, and officially announced projects that remain undated.
Updated August 13, 2026. The next clearly dated theatrical Star Wars film is Star Wars: Starfighter, which opens exclusively in theaters on May 28, 2027. The next clearly announced series is Ahsoka Season 2, coming to Disney+ in early 2027, although Lucasfilm has not announced an exact premiere date.
The list needs one important correction before we look ahead: The Mandalorian and Grogu is no longer an upcoming theatrical release. It opened on May 22, 2026. It remains relevant because its 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray release is scheduled for August 25, 2026, and its official merchandise is still arriving.

The next confirmed Star Wars releases
Ahsoka Season 2 — Disney+, early 2027
Status: Upcoming with a broad window; officially announced and in production.
Release: Early 2027 on Disney+. No exact premiere day has been announced in the official information available for this update.
Dave Filoni is returning to continue the live-action Ahsoka story. The second season follows the characters and unresolved story threads established in Season 1, but Lucasfilm has not publicly supplied a full synopsis, episode count, trailer schedule, or more precise release date. Those details should not be filled in with rumor or inference.
The announced returning and continuing cast includes:
- Rosario Dawson as Ahsoka Tano
- Natasha Liu Bordizzo as Sabine Wren
- Lars Mikkelsen as Grand Admiral Thrawn
- Eman Esfandi as Ezra Bridger
- Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Hera Syndulla
- Hayden Christensen as Anakin Skywalker
- Ivanna Sakhno as Shin Hati
- Rory McCann continuing the role of Baylan Skoll
The practical answer for viewers is simple: Ahsoka Season 2 is the next major live-action Star Wars series, but “early 2027” is currently as specific as the official schedule gets.
Star Wars: Starfighter — May 28, 2027
Status: Upcoming with a confirmed date; in production.
Release: May 28, 2027, exclusively in theaters.
Shawn Levy is directing Star Wars: Starfighter from a screenplay by Jonathan Tropper. Levy and Kathleen Kennedy are producing. The executive producers are Ryan Gosling, Dan Levine, Mary McLaglen, and Josh McLaglen. Lucasfilm announced the full cast after production began in the United Kingdom.

The cast includes Ryan Gosling, Flynn Gray, Matt Smith, Mia Goth, Aaron Pierre, Simon Bird, Jamael Westman, Daniel Ings, and Amy Adams.

1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsThe film is described as an all-new, standalone adventure with original characters set in a previously unexplored period of the Star Wars timeline. The Walt Disney Company has placed it approximately five years after Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.
That description matters. Starfighter should not be presented as a direct continuation of Rey’s story or as a sequel centered on Grogu, Din Djarin, or another existing Disney+ character. Its confirmed connection to the established timeline is its approximate placement after The Rise of Skywalker; the currently announced premise does not identify it as a Skywalker Saga sequel.
Recently released, but still worth tracking
The Mandalorian and Grogu — released May 22, 2026
Status: Released theatrically. Its physical-media release is upcoming.
Home release: 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray on August 25, 2026, including additional physical-media offerings such as a Beskar Collector’s Edition.

The story takes place after the fall of the Empire, while scattered Imperial warlords remain a threat. The New Republic enlists Din Djarin and Grogu for a mission. Lucasfilm’s highlighted cast includes Pedro Pascal as Din Djarin/The Mandalorian, Sigourney Weaver as Colonel Ward, and Jeremy Allen White as Rotta the Hutt.
Because the theatrical date has passed, this film belongs in a “recently released” section rather than in a list of future movie premieres. The August 25 physical release is the date collectors and home-viewing audiences should watch next.

Star Wars films announced without release dates
Lucasfilm has announced three additional live-action films that remain undated in the official announcement used for this update. They are real announced projects, but there is no responsible way to place them on a release calendar until Lucasfilm supplies dates or a more concrete production update.
James Mangold’s dawn-of-the-Jedi film
James Mangold is developing a film set at the dawn of the Jedi, far earlier than the familiar Skywalker-era chronology. The project has no final title, announced cast, confirmed production date, or release date in the cited official announcement.
The safe description is therefore: James Mangold is developing a film set at the dawn of the Jedi, but Lucasfilm has not announced a release date. Any more specific claims about its story, characters, or place in a future theatrical calendar should wait for an official update.
Dave Filoni’s New Republic film
Dave Filoni is developing a film focused on the New Republic era. Lucasfilm has described it as a project intended to bring together interconnected storylines from The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, Ahsoka, and other Disney+ series.
Its release date has not been announced. The project’s connection to the New Republic-era television storyline makes it significant for fans following those shows, but it should not be assigned a theatrical year based on old calendars or unofficial reports.

Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy’s Rey and new Jedi Order film
Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy is directing a film set after Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Daisy Ridley is slated to return as Rey, who will build a new Jedi Order.
The project has not received a final title or official release date in the announcement used here. The accurate status is: Rey’s next chapter is officially in development, but the project remains undated.

What should not be counted as confirmed upcoming Star Wars
Older Lucasfilm announcements do not automatically represent the current slate. Projects such as Taika Waititi’s untitled film, previously announced series concepts, and other development titles should not be listed as scheduled upcoming releases unless a newer official announcement confirms that they remain active and provides a current status.
That does not mean every older project has been canceled. It means there is not enough current official information to present it as a confirmed future release. “No date located” and “canceled” are different claims, and this guide makes the narrower claim supported by the available evidence.
Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord also does not belong on the upcoming list as of August 13, 2026. Its official premiere was April 6, 2026, with episodes released through the May 4 finale, so it is a 2026 release rather than a future title.

How to interpret the dates
Confirmed date means an exact day has been announced, as with May 28, 2027 for Starfighter and August 25, 2026 for the physical release of The Mandalorian and Grogu.
Broad window means the project has an official period but no exact day. Ahsoka Season 2 is in this category with “early 2027.” The window may later be narrowed or changed.
Announced without a date means Lucasfilm has publicly identified the project and its broad creative premise, but has not supplied a release date in the official information available here. The three films in development fall into this category.
