Spoilers for the full series finale. Johnny and Daniel finish as allies and dojo partners; Tory and Miguel win the Sekai Taikai student titles; and the finale gives several other characters a new direction without settling every question. Kreese and Silver appear to die in an explosion, but the show does not confirm their deaths.
Who wins the Sekai Taikai?
The tournament’s final outcomes set up the characters’ closing scenes. Tory wins the girls’ final against Zara. Miguel wins the boys’ title against Axel after receiving the Cobra Kai spot. Robby does not win: Axel deliberately injures him in their semifinal, ending Robby’s chance at the championship.

Johnny then faces Sensei Wolf in a tiebreaker after the team totals are tied. Johnny wins the fight, giving the combined team the victory. Co-creator Jon Hurwitz described the emotional aim as bringing Johnny back to the All Valley Sports Arena for a victory after he and Daniel had worked through their conflict. Netflix’s finale recap covers the tournament and the creators’ comments.
Where do Johnny and Daniel end up?
Johnny Lawrence
Johnny does not abandon Cobra Kai. He runs it alongside Daniel’s Miyagi-Do, with the two sides teaching a shared class. His personal ending is also a reconciliation with Robby: Robby tells him that karate brought them together. The finale closes their story with Johnny and Daniel sharing a meal as friends who still get under each other’s skin.
#1 Best Overall
Daniel LaRusso
Daniel supports Johnny from his corner during the sensei tiebreaker and accepts that Johnny’s approach has value, while retaining his Miyagi-Do identity. Their partnership is not a merger that erases either dojo: the closing class brings both sides together.
What happens to Miguel and Sam?
Miguel Diaz
Miguel wins the boys’ championship and is headed to Stanford. Before college, he accompanies Sam to Okinawa for part of her trip.
Samantha LaRusso
Sam chooses not to continue fighting in the tournament and takes an overseas program in Okinawa. She and Miguel expect their college paths to diverge, but the finale does not present them as definitively broken up. Their visit together is a temporary snapshot, not a settled account of what happens to the relationship. Miguel actor Xolo Maridueña said the ending was intentionally open: “Who knows? I think that’s the fun of leaving it open ended.” TV Guide’s interview discusses the couple’s future.
What happens to Robby and Tory?
Robby Keene
Robby’s semifinal loss is not his final note. After reconciling with Johnny, he joins Tory in agency-backed promotional work that involves travel, tournaments, and demonstrations. His next chapter is built around karate and greater control over his own path, rather than another tournament result.

Tory Nichols
Along with winning the girls’ final, Tory rebuilds her friendship with Sam and pursues the promotional work with Robby. The finale gives her a championship and a practical next step, but does not map out her entire future.
Do Hawk and Demetri go to MIT?
No. Eli “Hawk” Moskowitz and Demetri Alexopoulos go to Caltech together, changing course from their earlier MIT plan. The episode does not establish a definite long-term karate career for either of them.
Are Kreese and Silver dead?
The two appear to be killed when Silver’s yacht explodes, but the series does not confirm either death. Kreese boards the yacht to stop Silver’s threat against Johnny’s family. During their fight, fuel spills; Kreese lights it with his smoldering cigar, and the boat explodes. No bodies are shown, and no character is shown learning that the men may have died.
Co-creator Hayden Schlossberg said, “We don’t see the bodies afterward,” adding that Kreese “has come back from the dead before.” The careful answer is that they are presumed dead, not confirmed dead. Netflix’s finale recap includes Schlossberg’s explanation.
Rank #3
What becomes of Chozen, Kim, and the younger students?
Chozen Toguchi and Kim Da-Eun
Kim trains students in Korea with a more constructive, cruelty-free approach. Chozen visits her, and the scene suggests a possible romantic spark; it does not confirm that they are a couple.
Kenny, Anthony, and Devon
Kenny Payne, Anthony LaRusso, and Devon Lee appear among the students in the combined dojo’s final class. The finale does not specify their adult careers or long-term futures.
What is confirmed—and what remains open?
| Finale outcome | Status |
|---|---|
| Tory wins the girls’ title; Miguel wins the boys’ title; Johnny wins the sensei tiebreaker. | Shown in the finale |
| Johnny and Daniel run Cobra Kai and Miyagi-Do alongside each other. | Shown in the closing scenes |
| Miguel is headed to Stanford; Sam goes to Okinawa; Hawk and Demetri go to Caltech. | Stated or shown as their next destinations |
| Sam and Miguel’s long-term relationship; Chozen and Kim’s relationship; Kreese and Silver’s survival. | Left open or unconfirmed |
The finale offers brief next-step snapshots for the principal cast, not a complete account of everyone’s later life. Netflix released the final season’s third part on February 13, 2025; the completed season has 15 episodes. Netflix’s season guide gives the episode count, and About Netflix’s farewell guide dates the finale release.
