The nine prominent Hashira in Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba are associated with Water, Flame, Sound, Insect, Mist, Love, Serpent, Wind, and Stone Breathing. Hashira are the Demon Slayer Corps’ highest-ranking swordsmen. This guide covers the central roster represented in the story’s current and recent arcs—not every Hashira across the Corps’ history.
Who are the Hashira?
“Hashira” is the title for the Demon Slayer Corps’ highest-ranking swordsmen. Each of the nine prominent members below has a title associated with a Breathing Style. The official English character pages establish the Hashira titles; a secondary overview explicitly names several corresponding Breathing Styles. The official Hashira Training Arc character guide presents seven members of the current roster and identifies Tengen Uzui as a former Hashira. The official Mugen Train character page identifies Kyojuro Rengoku as the Flame Hashira.
The nine prominent Hashira and their styles
Giyu Tomioka — Water
Giyu is the Water Hashira. He is a reticent swordsman who leads Tanjiro toward the Demon Slayer Corps. His title pairs him with Water Breathing. The official character guide identifies him as the Water Hashira.
Kyojuro Rengoku — Flame
Rengoku is the Flame Hashira, identified as such in the official Mugen Train character material. The associated style is Flame Breathing.

Shinobu Kocho — Insect
Shinobu is the Insect Hashira. Her medical knowledge and demon-defeating poison distinguish her role in the Corps, as described in the official character guide. Her associated style is Insect Breathing.

- Sega presents Muichiro Tokito Hashira Training Arc Version figure. She measures 11 cm and is based on her appearance in the anime "Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba". Display with Sanemi Shinazugawa and Obanai Iguro figures (sold separately).
Gyomei Himejima — Stone
Gyomei is the Stone Hashira. The official Infinity Castle character page describes him as the strongest member of the Corps, while the Hashira Training Arc page notes his compassion and chanting of nenbutsu. That overall character assessment does not establish that Stone Breathing is stronger than the other styles.

The nine characters above are the prominent roster for the story’s current and recent arcs; they are not a verified list of every Hashira in the Corps’ history. GamesRadar’s Hashira overview identifies Kanae Kocho as a former Flower Hashira. That historical example shows why “every” needs a scope: past generations include Hashira beyond the central nine, and a complete succession list is not established here.

A Breathing Style alone does not make someone a Hashira. The official Japanese Hashira Training Arc character portal identifies Zenitsu as a Thunder Breathing user, Inosuke as a Beast Breathing user, and Tanjiro as using Water Breathing as well as Hinokami Kagura. They are useful contrasts, but they are not among the nine Hashira in this guide’s roster.
How to compare the styles
The titles provide a clear way to distinguish the Hashira, but the cited character pages do not offer a consistent measure for ranking their Breathing Styles. Gyomei’s description as the Corps’ strongest member is an assessment of Gyomei, not a finding that Stone Breathing outranks Water, Flame, or any other style. The more grounded comparison is each character’s role and stated traits: Shinobu’s medicine and poison, Tengen’s Sound Breathing and retired status, or Muichiro’s rapid rise to Hashira rank.
