How the departures differ
Deaths and dramatic story decisions
Jin and Olinsky were killed off, while Lindsay, Roman, Dawson and Halstead received explicit story exits. Those plot outcomes explain what happened to the characters, not necessarily why each actor stopped being a regular. For example, TV Insider attributes Roman’s departure to a mutual decision and reports that Geraghty had other career interests; it describes Dawson’s storyline as having played out from the producers’ perspective. These are distinct accounts, not a single explanation for cast turnover.
An unexplained absence and a squad change
Rojas’s disappearance at the end of Season 7 was not explained in the following season. Cook’s exit was less ambiguous on screen: the Season 13 premiere established that she had joined another squad. TV Insider said Turner’s reason for leaving was unspecified when its roundup was published in August 2025.

Actors’ stated choices and separate allegations
Soffer and Spiridakos described wanting a change or new opportunities. Bush, separately, has alleged mistreatment on set. That allegation is not the same as an established explanation for Lindsay’s fictional departure. The accounts available for these cast changes differ by person; they do not establish one common cause.
What to know about LaRoyce Hawkins’s Season 14 exit
Hawkins has played Kevin Atwater since the series began. Peacock says he is leaving during Season 14 and will appear in the first few episodes to wrap up Atwater’s story. Us Weekly, citing Deadline, reported in July 2026 that he would exit as a series regular during the season and relayed an expected first-two-or-three-episodes timeframe.
