What is Everest: The Other Side about?
The film follows Jim Morrison and Hilaree Nelson as they pursue the goal of climbing Everest’s direct North Face and skiing down it. Disney’s press kit describes the route as the mountain’s most difficult and dangerous climb, saying only a handful of climbers had reached the top by that route and no one had successfully skied down it at the time the kit was published. Those are the distributor’s characterizations, not independently verified statistics.

Disney’s press kit calls the film “an intimate portrait of two people bound by love, ambition and the pursuit of the impossible.” The filmmakers also frame it as a story about the human cost of pursuing extreme goals. At Venice, director Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi said the film examines “the trade-offs required to pursue extraordinary goals” and described Nelson as a singular person and the story as a parable about enduring grief. Director and cinematographer Jimmy Chin wrote: “The film is about love, loss and courage.” He also described filming on the mountain with friends, where “one mistake ends everything.”
Who made the documentary?
Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi and Jimmy Chin directed and produced the film. The other credited producers are Shannon Dill, Anna Barnes, Bob Eisenhardt and Janet Yang. Bob Eisenhardt and Simona Ferrari are credited as editors; Clair Popkin, Jimmy Chin and Christopher Murphy are credited as cinematographers.

When does Everest: The Other Side come out?
Disney announced on September 3, 2026, that the film would open exclusively in cinemas and IMAX worldwide on October 30, 2026. The same announcement listed festival screenings at Telluride, Toronto, Camden and BFI London, following its world premiere at Venice. The Venice International Film Festival catalogue classifies it as Venice Open, out of competition.
Release schedules and ticket listings may vary by market. Check local cinema listings for showtimes, ticket availability and whether IMAX screenings are offered in your area.

As of October 8, 2026, Disney+ described the film as “only in theaters.” That indicates its current theatrical availability, not a confirmed future streaming release. The official pages reviewed do not give a Disney+ streaming date or confirm digital rental, purchase or disc availability.

The Venice Biennale catalogue lists a running time of 115 minutes and the languages English, Nepali, Sherpa, Spanish and Gurung. It lists the United States, China and Nepal as countries of the film. Disney+ lists the rating as PG-13.
