What did Biden say about Ethel Kennedy?

Biden’s eulogy joined public tribute with personal remembrance. He recalled that after the 1972 car crash that killed his wife, Neilia, and daughter, Naomi, and seriously injured his sons, Ethel and Ted Kennedy supported him as he considered leaving public life. Biden also remembered receiving letters and a humorous Valentine card from Ethel.

He described her as a source of empathy and practical help, as well as an advocate who marched for civil rights, worked to end poverty in the United States, and sought peace abroad. “We’re a better nation and a better world because of Ethel Kennedy,” Biden said. He closed by invoking her faith and urging people to keep working to turn pain toward purpose. Read the official transcript of Biden’s eulogy.
