It is now branded ESPN and offered through the ESPN app and ESPN.com. The key choice is between ESPN Select, which carries ESPN+ programming, and ESPN Unlimited, which adds ESPN’s television networks. Disney+, Hulu and ESPN bundles are still available, and eligible subscribers can watch ESPN content in Disney+ when their account includes the right ESPN plan.
What launched, and when?
Disney announced the direct-to-consumer service on May 13, 2025, initially describing a planned early-fall launch. ESPN confirmed the service went live on August 21, 2025. Unlike a simple renaming of the old ESPN+ app, the launch made ESPN’s linear networks available directly to subscribers for the first time. ESPN’s launch announcement also described an enhanced app with personalized SportsCenter features, live statistics, multiview on supported connected TVs, fantasy integrations and other interactive features. Which ESPN plan includes the channels?

ESPN Unlimited
ESPN describes Unlimited as including ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, ESPNNEWS, ESPN Deportes, SEC Network, ACC Network, ESPN+, ESPN on ABC, ESPN3, SEC Network+ and ACCNX. ESPN’s current bundle FAQ also lists NFL Network. Its launch description estimated more than 47,000 live events a year. The lineup does not guarantee every event associated with ESPN: rights restrictions, local-market rules, blackouts, league limitations and the platform carrying a program can affect availability. ESPN Select
Select is the lower-tier plan for ESPN+ content. ESPN describes that content as including college sports, soccer, golf, tennis, NHL programming, UFC and other combat sports, originals and on-demand replays. Disney’s launch announcement described more than 32,000 live sports events annually; the event count and programming mix can change. Select does not provide the full linear network lineup: viewers who need ESPN, ESPN2, SEC Network, ACC Network or other included networks generally need Unlimited or an eligible pay-TV package.

What happened to ESPN+?
ESPN+ did not simply disappear. Its content offering became the basis of ESPN Select, and ESPN Unlimited includes ESPN+ as part of the broader package. ESPN said existing ESPN+ subscribers transitioned to Select and retained access to the same ESPN+ content. Existing Disney Bundle subscribers with ESPN+ were moved to the corresponding Select bundle. Check the account’s plan name, billing source, renewal date and price before making a change; third-party billing or a legacy promotion may affect what happens when you switch. Can you watch ESPN through Disney+?
Yes, if the account has a qualifying ESPN entitlement. Disney says subscribers to the Disney+, Hulu and ESPN bundle can watch ESPN content in Disney+, and customers with a linked ESPN Select or Unlimited subscription can also access content there. What appears depends on the ESPN plan: access inside Disney+ does not mean a basic Disney+ subscription automatically includes full ESPN. A Disney+, Hulu, Max bundle subscriber may also be able to add an ESPN Unlimited entitlement. The ESPN app and ESPN.com remain the direct destinations for the standalone service. Prices: launch announcements versus current offers
Disney announced the following U.S. prices for the 2025 launch. These are historical announced prices, not a confirmation of what a new subscriber will pay today.

Disney also announced a $29.99 monthly introductory price for the ad-supported Disney+, Hulu and ESPN Unlimited bundle for the first 12 months after launch. That was a time-limited launch offer, not a permanent rate. ESPN’s bundle page now says its savings comparison uses a regular price of $94.99 as of July 2026, but it does not establish a universal checkout price for every customer or billing arrangement. Check ESPN’s subscription page and the bundle page for the offer and terms presented to your account before subscribing. The 2025 launch prices and promotion were reported in Disney’s announcement.

Even a bundle with ad-free Disney+ and Hulu does not remove ads from live sports or studio programming, according to ESPN’s plan FAQ.
How to choose the right way to subscribe
Choose ESPN Unlimited for ESPN’s television networks
- Pick Unlimited if you need ESPN, ESPN2, SEC Network, ACC Network, ESPNU, ESPNNEWS or ESPN Deportes.
- It is the direct ESPN option for fans seeking those networks without a traditional pay-TV package, while individual event availability remains subject to rights and restrictions.
Choose ESPN Select for ESPN+ programming
- Select fits viewers who mainly watch the ESPN+ catalog, such as its college sports, soccer, golf, tennis, combat sports and originals.
- Do not choose it expecting ESPN or ESPN2: Select is not the full channel package.
Choose a Disney bundle if the household will use the entertainment services
- Compare the bundle’s current checkout price with what you would pay for Disney+, Hulu and the relevant ESPN plan separately.
- It may suit a household that wants both entertainment and sports; it is a poorer fit for a sports-only viewer who would not use Disney+ or Hulu.
- Confirm whether the bundle includes Select or Unlimited and whether the Disney+ and Hulu tiers carry ads.
Check an existing live-TV plan before buying separately
ESPN’s current FAQ lists Hulu + Live TV, Fubo, Spectrum, DIRECTV, Verizon FiOS, U-verse and Cox among provider pathways associated with ESPN Unlimited access. The exact entitlement and activation process depend on the provider and customer’s package. Use the provider sign-in flow in the ESPN app to see what the account already receives before paying for a separate subscription; changing or canceling the provider plan may end the associated ESPN entitlement. How to subscribe or activate access
New direct subscriber
- Open ESPN’s subscription page and compare Select with Unlimited.
- Choose a plan and sign in or create an account when prompted.
- Stream through the ESPN app or ESPN.com. If you also have Disney+, link the ESPN entitlement to your Disney account where supported.
Existing ESPN+ subscriber
- Sign in to the account used for ESPN+ and review the plan name, renewal date, price and billing provider.
- Confirm that Select is available and that the ESPN+ content you expect appears before changing tiers.
- Use the account’s original billing partner to manage the subscription if it was purchased through Apple, Google, Roku, a provider or another distributor.
Disney Bundle or pay-TV customer
- Check whether the current bundle or provider package includes Select or Unlimited.
- Sign in to the ESPN app using the Disney account or provider activation option, as applicable, and check the networks available to the account.
- For Disney+ viewing, verify that the ESPN entitlement is linked and that the relevant content appears in the app.
- Before canceling or changing plans, review the renewal price and any promotion, annual term or third-party billing arrangement that could be lost.
Plan changes, devices and streams
ESPN’s current FAQ says a Select-to-Unlimited change takes effect immediately with a prorated charge; an Unlimited-to-Select change takes effect at the next billing date. After an annual plan has been charged, it cannot immediately be changed to monthly billing for the same plan. Cancellation generally leaves access in place through the end of the billing period, without a refund or credit for unused time. Check the terms shown in the account before confirming a change, particularly if billing is handled by a third party. ESPN’s FAQ contains the current rules.
ESPN lists support for Android devices and TV, Amazon Fire TV and tablets, Apple TV, iPhone and iPad, Chromecast, LG and Samsung smart TVs, PlayStation 4 and 5, Roku, Vizio SmartCast, Xbox One and Series X|S, and Xfinity and Xumo devices. Device support can change. ESPN says most content can stream on up to three devices simultaneously, subject to applicable terms and restrictions; do not assume that every program follows the same limit.

Common mistakes to avoid
- Buying Select for the cable channels: Select is ESPN+ content, not ESPN’s full network lineup.
- Assuming ESPN+ was shut down: the content offering continues through Select and is also included in Unlimited.
- Paying twice: an existing live-TV plan may already grant Unlimited access, depending on provider and package.
- Assuming every ESPN event is included: rights, blackouts, local-market rules and platform restrictions still apply.
- Changing plans without checking the price: a promotion, legacy bundle rate or annual plan may not carry over.
- Expecting Disney+ alone to unlock ESPN: Disney+ in-app access requires the proper linked ESPN plan.
