In Runaway Train: Or the Story of My Life So Far, Roberts addressed his earlier claim, “If it wasn’t for me, there would be no Julia Roberts,” as quoted by The Independent. The outlet reports that he called it “an asinine thing to say.” Us Weekly quotes him describing the claim as untrue and writing, “I was proud of her, but it was pride turned on its head, to my own advantage.”

What the memoir says about his family relationships
Roberts’s memoir also discusses strained family relationships and his past drug use. In its account of the book, El País English reports that he connected those experiences with damage to relationships with his sisters and daughter. That is Roberts’s retrospective account as reported by the outlet, not independent verification of private family matters.
