Full spoilers for the Attack on Titan manga and anime, including the ending. In the in-world chronology, Eren’s story begins with the fall of Wall Maria in 845, moves through cadet training in 847 and the battles of 850, then shifts to Marley and the Rumbling in 854. This is a chronology of when events happen, not the order in which the audience learns about them.
Before Eren’s story: the origin of Titan power
The specialist chronology places Ymir Fritz’s encounter with the source of Titan power roughly 1,850 years before the main story. It traces the power’s later division into the Nine Titans and the Eldian Empire’s expansion. This is a broad, approximate historical anchor—not a precise calendar date.
The same chronology places Marley’s rise and the Great Titan War about a century before the story. It then dates King Karl Fritz’s retreat to Paradis and the creation of the Walls to year 743. These are dates within the story’s history, not real-world years. The year-by-year anchors in this article come from a specialist timeline, not an official Kodansha chronology: Attack on Titan story timeline.
Eren Yeager’s timeline, year by year
Year 845: Wall Maria falls
The Colossal Titan breaches Shiganshina, and the Armored Titan breaches the inner gate. Eren’s home is destroyed and his mother is killed. The catastrophe gives his desire to fight Titans a defining purpose. Kodansha’s series page establishes the premise of Eren yearning to explore beyond Wall Maria; the specific year 845 comes from the specialist chronology: Kodansha’s Attack on Titan series page.

Year 846: refugees are sent back into Wall Maria
In the chronology, authorities send refugees into the territory lost with Wall Maria in a failed effort to relieve food shortages. This episode shows one consequence of the breach beyond Eren’s personal story; it is not a central Eren milestone.
Year 847: cadet training begins
Eren, Mikasa, Armin, and their peers begin training in the 104th Cadet Corps.
Year 850: Trost and Eren’s Titan power
During the crisis at Trost, Eren reveals that he can transform into a Titan and helps seal the gate with a boulder. The event overturns the assumption that he can fight Titans only as a human soldier.
Year 850: the Female Titan and the conflict within the Walls
The specialist chronology groups the Female Titan expedition and Annie’s exposure and crystallization in this year. It also places the conflict with Reiner and Bertholdt and the uprising—including Historia’s rise—within 850.

The battle of Shiganshina leads to the Yeagers’ basement and a major reframing of what lies beyond the Walls. The basement discovery belongs to this phase of the story; it should not be confused with the later events in Marley. Several major arcs share the year 850 in the specialist timeline.
Year 854: Marley and the attack on Liberio
Four years after the Shiganshina events, the story shifts to Marley. Eren appears in Liberio, where the Survey Corps attacks during Willy Tybur’s speech. The specialist chronology assigns the Marley war and Liberio events to 854.
Year 854: the Yeagerists and the Rumbling
The chronology also places the Yeagerists’ takeover on Paradis, the formation of an alliance among former enemies, and Eren’s release of the Wall Titans in 854. It assigns the Rumbling and the final battle to that same story year.
After the final battle: the tree and a distant future
The ending returns to the grave beneath a tree and shows a later era in which Paradis has become a military power. The chronology supports that broad sequence, but not a precise elapsed-year count for the distant-future scenes.
How the chronology differs from the audience’s discovery order
Attack on Titan reveals some events and their meaning long after they happen in the story. Reading events in chronological order can clarify when the history unfolded, but it also puts major revelations ahead of the order in which the manga and anime present them.
| Order | What it means | Best use |
|---|---|---|
| Release order | The order in which the manga and anime reveal events to the audience. | Preserves the intended progression of reveals for a first experience. |
| In-world chronological order | The order in which events happened within the story, including older history revealed later. | Helps make sense of the timeline after experiencing the story; it can spoil major twists if used first. |
This article uses in-world chronology. It is not a spoiler-safe reading or viewing guide.
What this timeline establishes—and what it does not
The broad anchors supported here are the fall of Wall Maria in 845, cadet training in 847, the major events around Trost and Shiganshina in 850, and Marley, Liberio, and the Rumbling in 854. Kodansha lists the manga as complete and offers print and digital editions, including collected formats, for readers who want to check the story itself: Kodansha’s series page.
The official anime page records the Japanese broadcast of the Final Season finale on November 4, 2023; that is a release milestone, not an in-world date, and it does not establish current streaming availability in every region: official anime broadcast page.

This overview does not establish Eren’s birth date, his exact age at each event, a complete chronological ordering of every memory, or a definitive account of manga–anime differences. Nor does it assign an exact interval to the distant-future epilogue. Kodansha’s Attack on Titan: The Anime Guide offers supplementary context on the series and its production, but its publisher description does not present it as a complete Eren timeline: Kodansha’s Anime Guide page.
