Emma Stone arrived at the 82nd Golden Globe Awards in Beverly Hills on January 5, 2025, with a close, grown-out pixie. It was not simply a new event hairstyle: Stone later confirmed that she had shaved her head for Bugonia, and the Golden Globes look showed her hair in the process of growing back.
What Emma Stone’s Golden Globes haircut looked like
Stone’s short, sleek cut drew attention on the red carpet. Contemporary coverage described it as a pixie, while hairstylist Mara Roszak characterized the hair as an early grow-out. Roszak said her inspiration included Winona Ryder in 1996 and Liv Tyler in 1998. Allure’s January 5, 2025, account details the styling; Good Morning America and Vogue also described the cut on the night.
Why her hair was so short
On Golden Globes night, Vogue reported that the cut was rumored to be connected to Bugonia. In an August 2025 interview, Stone confirmed that she shaved her head for the film, whose character is shaved on screen. Vogue reported that the scene used Stone’s real hair rather than CGI. The later confirmation explains why her hair was growing out by the time of the awards. Vogue’s interview with Stone records her response: “No better feeling in the world.”
How Mara Roszak styled the grow-out
Roszak said the prep began with the haircut itself: “The prep is really in the cut. The smallest tweak can make the biggest difference.” She wanted a small trim on the day to refine the shape.

- With the hair damp, Roszak used a comb to smooth the back and create a subtle division.
- She rough-dried it to about 70 percent, then used a dryer nozzle to direct the hair. The length was too short for a round-brush blowout.
- She used a toothbrush-like tool to position individual hairs, then applied more cream once the hair was dry to shape the finish.
Roszak said Rōz Evergreen Styling Cream was the only styling product she used for the look. She described it as re-brushable and said it helped tame flyaways and reduce fluff. Those are her reported reasons for choosing it on Stone’s hair, not evidence that it will perform the same way for every hair type.
The auburn color and post-gloss care
Colorist Tracey Cunningham called Stone’s auburn shade “Nutmeg,” describing it as slightly darker than Stone’s usual color. Allure reported that the color process included a 20-minute gloss, followed by Olaplex No. 4 Bond Maintenance Shampoo and No. 5 Bond Maintenance Conditioner. Good Morning America also quoted Cunningham describing the shade as “Nutmeg.” These wash-care products were reported as part of the color routine, not as products used to style or hold the pixie.

What to consider if you want a similar short grow-out
A close crop growing out is a changing shape, not a fixed cut. Roszak’s account emphasizes how much a small trim and deliberate direction can affect the finish; Vogue has also described the pixie grow-out as difficult. If you are considering a similar look, discuss the shape you want during each stage with your stylist and how often you are willing to return for trims. Styling choices depend on hair texture, length, and the finish you prefer; the reported product choice for Stone is not a universal prescription.
