What Emma Roberts said about Madame Web
In a July 2024 interview conducted around her Prime Video film Space Cadet, Roberts reflected on the reception of Madame Web. As reported by Teen Vogue, she said: “If it wasn’t for internet culture and everything being made into a joke, I think that the reception [to Madame Web] would’ve been different.” She added that people “make such a joke out of everything now.”

Roberts also said she was “not intimidated by failure” or by negative opinions. She said she personally “really loved Madame Web,” praised its cast, and thought director S. J. Clarkson “did an amazing job.” Her wider point was that entertainment success is difficult to predict: “Things work; things don’t work.”
Did internet jokes cause the film to flop?
The available reporting does not establish that. Roberts offered an opinion about reception; it does not demonstrate that internet culture caused either the film’s reviews or its theatrical results.
