What is Camille’s secret?
After Camille begins spotting, she visits an obstetrician-gynecologist and learns she was not pregnant. The test that convinced her—and Gabriel—that a baby was coming had produced a rare false positive. Her missed period was due to stress. The reveal overturns a major assumption driving the season’s romantic tension: there is no baby on the way.
The episode does not show Gabriel receiving that news. Camille tells a friend what she has learned, then sees Gabriel at his restaurant. She cannot bring herself to tell him there. At the cutoff, Camille knows the pregnancy was false, while Gabriel still believes he will become a father with her.
Why doesn’t Camille tell Gabriel?
The finale leaves Camille’s hesitation emotionally suggestive rather than giving it a single confirmed explanation. She had been excited about becoming a mother, and she has just lost Sofia. When Camille sees Gabriel at the restaurant, she cannot interrupt his happy mood with the truth. The episode establishes her silence, not a definitive plan or motive behind it.

How Sofia’s breakup shapes the ending
Earlier, Sofia ends her relationship with Camille and returns to Athens. Sofia says she had not intended to move to Paris and is troubled by Camille’s reluctance to leave the city and her connection to Gabriel. The breakup leaves Camille without the future she had imagined with Sofia just as the pregnancy she thought connected her to Gabriel is disproved.
That change removes the expected baby as a practical tie between Camille and Gabriel, but it does not resolve the feelings or uncertainty among the three characters. Camille’s secret keeps the emotional situation unsettled.
What the reveal means for Emily and Gabriel
Emily and Gabriel have admitted their feelings and are trying to move forward. Their new beginning is complicated because Gabriel believes Camille is pregnant with his child. The audience, however, knows that belief is no longer true. That gap between what Gabriel believes and what Camille knows is the Part 1 cliffhanger.
The finale ends before Gabriel learns the truth or reacts to it. So the ending does not show him choosing between Emily and Camille after the reveal; it leaves him unaware that the circumstance shaping his choices has changed.

Where Part 1 stops—and what happens later
Part 1 ending: Camille learns she was never pregnant and does not tell Gabriel before the episode ends. That is the endpoint of this cliffhanger.
Later Season 4 spoilers: Netflix’s full-season retrospective confirms Camille realizes she is not expecting and says the discovery opens a path for Emily and Gabriel. Emily’s story later moves toward Rome. Those events belong to the rest of Season 4, not the Part 1 finale.

Why the reveal lands as a cliffhanger
The pregnancy had appeared to be a concrete obstacle to Emily and Gabriel getting together. The false-positive reveal changes the obstacle: the baby is not real, but Gabriel still believes it is, and Camille has not corrected him. The Part 1 ending therefore turns on withheld information rather than a conversation or a resolution. Creator Darren Star described what follows the finale as “a roller coaster,” in an interview with Jessica Radloff for Glamour published August 15, 2024.
