Born Elizabeth Jean Frankovitch in Akron, Ohio, on June 18, 1941, she graduated from the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in 1962, according to the Television Academy and the Los Angeles Times.
Why was Elizabeth Franz known for Linda Loman?
Franz’s defining stage role was Linda Loman, the wife of Willy Loman, in the 1999 Broadway revival of Arthur Miller’s Death of a Salesman. Opposite Brian Dennehy, she gave the character a force that Miller said earlier portrayals had often subdued. In a 1999 interview, Miller described her interpretation as revealing “the basic underlying powerful protectiveness, which comes out as fury.” The Los Angeles Times obituary reproduced his remark.
