Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat is a heightened Hindi romance melodrama, but its central romance depends on a man continuing to pursue a woman after she rejects him. That choice has led several critics to read the film as romanticizing coercive behavior, while another review finds more to value in its lead performances and music than in its familiar, uneven story. Whether it is worth watching depends largely on how you respond to that treatment of refusal.
What is Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat about?
Directed by Milap Milan Zaveri, the 2025 Hindi romance/drama stars Harshvardhan Rane as politician Vikramaditya Bhonsle and Sonam Bajwa as actress Adaa Randhawa. After Adaa rejects him, Vikramaditya becomes obsessed with her. The ensuing conflict centers on power, control, rejection and the consequences of his pursuit.
The film’s official synopsis uses the language of love, obsession, respect and defiance. That is promotional framing, not an independent account of what the story’s choices mean. The more revealing question is how the film presents Vikramaditya’s conduct once Adaa has made her refusal clear.
Does the film stand up for stalkers?
Several critics argue that it does, or that it comes uncomfortably close. Scroll.in reviewer Nandini Ramnath describes the film as glorifying stalkers, pointing to the gap between Adaa’s stated lack of interest and Vikramaditya’s continued pursuit. India Today reviewer Sana Farzeen likewise objects that he “doesn’t take no for an answer” and criticizes the attempt to redeem him. The Indian Express review is also sharply critical of the film’s misogynistic, toxic framing, though its available excerpt does not support a more detailed account of its argument.

These are reviewers’ interpretations, not measured evidence of how audiences respond. But they identify the film’s central tension: a story can present itself as old-school, heightened romance while showing a man who treats a woman’s rejection as an obstacle to overcome. If you find that framing troubling, the film’s romantic premise may not soften the problem; it may make the problem feel more pronounced.
The Times of India’s review offers a less focused critique of that issue, emphasizing instead the film’s clichés, uneven storytelling and nostalgic approach to 1990s-style romance. The disagreement is about emphasis, not the basic setup: Vikramaditya’s pursuit after rejection is the story’s defining conflict.

What works, and what does not?
Performances
Archika Khurana’s Times of India review credits Rane and Bajwa with carrying an uneven film. ZEE5’s description also foregrounds the leads, but that is platform promotion rather than independent criticism. If you are primarily watching for the actors, the positive note from Khurana may be a reason to give the film a chance.
Writing and pacing
Khurana calls the story familiar and cliché-prone, describing a sluggish first half and a jarring turn. The film’s nostalgia for 1990s romance may be part of its appeal for viewers who enjoy emphatic melodrama; for others, familiar conventions and uneven pacing may make the experience feel dated rather than transporting.
Music
Khurana identifies the music as the film’s major strength, singling out “Deewaniyat” and “Dil Dil Dil.” That makes the soundtrack one of the clearer reasons to consider watching, particularly if you enjoy music-led romantic drama.
Is it worth watching?
Consider it if you enjoy high-emotion, old-school melodrama and are interested in the performances or songs. The Times of India rated it 2.5/5; that is Khurana’s critic score, not an audience rating or a broader measure of reception.

Skip it, or approach it with caution, if you are sensitive to stories that make persistent pursuit look like proof of love. Scroll.in and India Today both object to the film’s handling of refusal and its treatment of Vikramaditya’s behavior. That criticism is central to deciding whether the romance works for you, not a minor caveat to set aside.
