What happened to Eileen Bond?
PerthNow reported on 25 May 2009 that Bond spoke to the television program Today Tonight while showing its crew her home in Peppermint Grove, Perth. The story described the account as the first time she had spoken publicly about the near-death experience. Its accident details came from Bond’s recollection, not from medical records or an independent account.
Bond said she was trying to move her dog through a wrought-iron gate when she fell from a balcony and landed on concrete. PerthNow printed her account: “I fell off a balcony. The dog was outside and I gave the dog a bit of a boot though the wrought-iron gate. I went over balcony and landed on the concrete.”
What injuries did she report?
Bond said, “I crushed my foot and broke two vertebrae.” PerthNow characterized her recovery as long and painful. The article does not provide further medical detail, such as the precise nature of the fractures or the length of her recovery.

What did the 2009 report say about her home?
The interview took place as Bond put her View Street mansion in Peppermint Grove on the market. PerthNow reported an asking price of $6.35 million and said she had sold the same home for $9.5 million in 1999. The report said the fall had prompted her to leave the mansion; these are historical details from the 2009 story, not current property information.
The article placed the interview against the Bond family’s public history, including its profile in the 1970s, America’s Cup successes in the 1980s and the decline of the Bond business empire in the 1990s. Bond also recalled, “When I married Alan we had 11 houses in first nine years.”

What the report does—and does not—establish
PerthNow’s 25 May 2009 story is a record of what Bond said in that interview. It does not date the fall, so it should not be described as an accident that happened in 2009. Nor does the article independently verify her injuries or give a medical account. The real-estate agent’s prediction that the home “will sell in the next few weeks” was a forecast at the time, not confirmation of a sale.
